Carmelo Anthony Re-Signed With The Knicks

Postby Alpha_ on Sun Jul 13, 2014 3:12 am

Carmelo Anthony has agreed to re-sign with the New York Knicks on a five-year $120 million-plus contract.

Anthony might take less than the maximum $129 million deal the Knicks can offer.

Sources say there is belief within Anthony's camp that it is better to take the Knicks' offer and he could attempt to be traded if things don't work out.

Anthony also considered signing with the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks. Anthony was reportedly most heavily swayed by the idea of joining the Bulls.

Anthony was traded to the Knicks in February of 2011 by the Denver Nuggets.

Anthony reportedly believes in Phil Jackson's ability to remake the Knicks into a title contender.

Stephen A. Smith reports that Anthony's camp has informed the Bulls and Rockets that he won't sign with either club. Anthony is working on details of his contract with the Knicks.

Like Sauru said in another thread, not every player is concerned about winning a ring.

Not thrilled with this max contract.....typical Knick move, and they always get burned by it.

What happened to all that talk from Phil about Carmelo taking a hometown discount to help the team? I guess Phil got nervous about Chicago and blinked first.

So the Knicks plan is to suck next season, finally get those bad contracts off the books, then make a run at Kevin Durant in 2015.

Now everyone's going to go hunt for Durant in free agency next season.

Although the extra money has to be a factor in his decision - and you can't fault him for that - I think there's something to be said for loyalty and taking on the challenge of trying to win in a tougher situation. That said, Jax better have some tricks up his sleeve if he's going to build a quality team around Melo.

I think Melo just likes the New York lifestyle. He's part of the culture there now.

At this pivotal juncture in my career, I owed it to myself and my family to explore all of the options available to me. Through it all, my heart never wavered.

During this journey I met with some quality organizations who have amazing talent and leadership. I thank them for their consideration, belief in my talent, and opportunity to imagine the possibilities.

I will always remember this chapter in my life. In the end, I am a New York Knick at heart. I am looking forward to continue my career in Orange & Blue and to work with Phil Jackson, a champion who builds championship teams. Madison Square Garden is the mecca of basketball and I am surrounded by the greatest fans in the world.

There you go.

No reason to pass up money and a good location to go to Chicago and have Thibs chew him out for his defense and Rose get hurt again. No point in making sacrifices to go to Houston and not make the team any better because he and Harden share the same weaknesses.

Don't know if keeping Melo at that age and salary is the right move, but if they can upgrade the roster over the next couple years, they should be a perennial playoff team, which means $$$$

Bulls fan says he shouldn't have said it wasn't about the $.

I do blame him for taking the money.

Too bad the bulls no longer have Nocioni to play hockey goon on him.

He probably just wanted to get courted. When he signed the extension with Denver he didn't do what the "Miami Three" did and set an ETO, and then when he forced his way to New York he signed another extension. He would have been passing up a ton of money again like when he first came to New York just to be the "sidekick" to Rose/Kobe/LeBron/Harden-Howard if he actually signed somewhere else.

i didn't expect him to go to Chicago but i will say it was a slight tease, inadvertent or not, for him to announce he's staying in ny days after the FA signings could become official. maybe he was waiting for lbj to announce first and then do it afterwards so he can have his own big press day. lbj totally overshadowed the headlines all weekend anyway
