NBA Trade Deadline Transactions 2014

Postby Patr1ck on Fri Feb 21, 2014 7:27 am

The Philadelphia 76ers traded center Spencer Hawes to the Cleveland Cavaliers for forward Earl Clark, center Henry Sims and two second-round picks.
The Miami Heat sent guard Roger Mason Jr. and cash to the Sacramento Kings for a "highly protected" second-round pick.
The Milwaukee Bucks shipped guards Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour to the Charlotte Bobcats in return for guard Ramon Sessions and forward Jeff Adrien.
The Golden State Warriors received guard Steve Blake from the Los Angeles Lakers for guards Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks.
The Washington Wizards received veteran guard Andre Miller from the Denver Nuggets for forward Jan Vesely. A third team, the Philadelphia 76ers, acquired Washington guard Eric Maynor and two second-round picks in the deal.
The Houston Rockets picked up forward Jordan Hamilton from the Denver Nuggets for point guard Aaron Brooks.
The San Antonio Spurs dealt guard Nando De Colo to the Toronto Raptors for forward Austin Daye.
The Atlanta Hawks received forward Antawn Jamison and cash from the Los Angeles Clippers for the draft rights to Cenk Akoyl (the 59th pick in 2005)
The Indiana Pacers acquired guard-forward Evan Turner and forward Lavoy Allen from the Philadelphia 76ers for veteran forward Danny Granger.
The Los Angeles Clippers sent forward Byron Mullens and a future second-round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for a conditional second-round pick.

All from http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1965 ... d-analysis

You can still create an individual thread if you want to discuss that particular trade and it hasn't already been created. I wanted to put all the deadline transactions in one spot for reference, if needed.

The 76ers were quite active in their moves. They picked up Granger, Mullens, Eric Maynor, Earl Clark, Henry Sims, and four second round picks in total.
The Clippers got rid of a couple of front court guys who haven't really been fitting in or getting minutes for tax purposes. I hope Blake and DeAndre don't get injured, now.

Great pickup for the Pacers, even if it is partly a salary dump. they still great good talent off the bench to use this year with bynum coming soon as well.

and lol @ Mullens getting a 2nd rd pick while hill & Kaman couldnt get that. and still loling at Sit saying Mullens was hanging around LAX waiting to get noticed by someone after he signed last summer

Indeed, a great pickup for Indiana. But he will likely came off the bench though.

P.S This trade deadline was even more boring than last year. lol

Thoughts on a few trades:

The Philadelphia 76ers traded center Spencer Hawes to the Cleveland Cavaliers for forward Earl Clark, center Henry Sims and two second-round picks.
First Bynum gone and then with Varejao going through rehab on multiple body parts(knee, back, etc), Tyler Zeller finally was starting to see some solid time. Now Hawes changes the scenery again. Overall, I hate this trade for personal reasons  because I got Hawes on my fantasy team, he's going from fantasy friendly team to a not-so-much team. Otherwise, this trade makes sense for both teams, win-now-mode Cavs gets usable player and rebuilding team gets picks and wash.

The Miami Heat sent guard Roger Mason Jr. and cash to the Sacramento Kings for a "highly protected" second-round pick.
Hate the term "highly protected", lol.

The Milwaukee Bucks shipped guards Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour to the Charlotte Bobcats in return for guard Ramon Sessions and forward Jeff Adrien.
Nice move by the Bucks. This should guarantee Nate Wolters a nice role in the rotation rest of the way without worrying about those gone-PGs whining. Though Sessions is ok, he's an expiring contract.

The San Antonio Spurs dealt guard Nando De Colo to the Toronto Raptors for forward Austin Daye.
LoL, Daye's seen a lot of teams lately. I like this for the Raptors though. Nando De Colo might be usable despite the Raptors having tons at wing position because none of them stands out anyway.

The Indiana Pacers acquired guard-forward Evan Turner and forward Lavoy Allen from the Philadelphia 76ers for veteran forward Danny Granger.
Biggest trade of all. 2 Questions here. One: Will Granger play as a 76ers or be bought out. Two: How will Evan Turner play as a Pacers. This is really a nice opportunity for Evan Turner.

Granger will likely be bought out. Miami can use that remaining spot for him.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Granger from here on out. Assuming he isn't bought out, do the Sixers view him as a capable veteran to round out a roster that will include one of the top prospects in this year's Draft? If nothing else, I don't see him getting another contract like the one the Pacers gave him last time, in Philadelphia or elsewhere.

The San Antonio Spurs dealt guard Nando De Colo to the Toronto Raptors for forward Austin Daye.

Spurs will definitely win the championship this time. QMJ

Austin Daye is just like Danny Green. He never had the right development on his past teams. Hope he turn things around in San Antonio.

Was going to say Kevin Durant but he choked against that choker LeBron in a Finals.

There's great chance that "highly protected second round" might not even get to be used. And the Heat also sent out some cash along with Mason Jr. LoL

But what we get is a roster space. It could turn out to be a jackpot once again like BirdmaN.

Hinkie got rid of crap that would leave in the summer anyway for some picks without compromising the cap flexibility and further helping the tank. The haul isn't great, but it's better than nothing.

Those expecting Turner to make the Pacers a lot stronger are in for a disappointment, I'm afraid. He still can't shoot, he's still useless without the ball and he's a bad defender on a team level - constantly lost in rotations. In other words, there's a reason the Pacers were able to get him for a 2nd rounder.

I'm glad Turner and Hawes are gone. Ever more glad Thad is still a Sixer. It's a good day.

It means they're unlikely to ever actually give it up.

Pacers getting rid of Granger was somehow forseeable. Why they went after Evan Turner is something I can't explain.
I like that Blake to the Warriors move. Nevertheless, the Lakers sucked at trading deadline with Gasol, Kaman and Hill still in Lakers jerseys.

At first, that's what I thought too but It's a low risk, low to med reward move imo. (unless Granger comes back to life and Evans becomes a total failure) It's an experiment at the cost of wash(or a misfit) Granger.

What does "one of the best records" actually mean?

They must be conference champions or make it to the playoffs or best franchise record?

And on that empty spot Earl Clark, Glen Davis or, most ironically, Granger?

It seems like Glen Davis is a good possibility for the Heat. He should be a good help as a size in the paint as long as his fat ass stays health.

Looks like more guys are getting cut than traded at the deadline. it'll be interesting to see where Granger, Clark, Big Baby, etc. all wind up
