UPDATE 10:27 a.m. Feb. 1: The Pacers have made it official.

Larry Bird on Bynum: “We are obviously happy to have him join our team... With the minutes he gets, he should be a valuable addition.”

I KNEW IT!

anthony davis used to play guard for most of his HS playing days until his growth spurt happened. he should play in his natural position unlike KG did

pacers looking at bynum lol

hibbert, west, bynum, scola. have them play all on the court with lance stephenson as PG

Pacers going for overkill in the post.

I figured he'd end up with the Heat, so there you go. Potentially a very good pickup for the Pacers, with very low risk.

It's a bit risky for the Heat to rely on Oden('s knees). On the other hand, Kingpin knees aren't have their own history as well.

I don't know the details to the contract but I'm thinking Bynum came cheap so this is good for the Pacers because he's kinda like Oden to the Heat, only bit healthier but little less relevant due to Pacers already having a great frontcourt unit. But I'm also guessing he came at little more than Mickey D minimum wage as Bynum was allegedly chasing after money.

My honest opinion is that I am glad the Heat didn't sign him. That would have been 2 guaranteed bums in suits on the bench(Wade might join them in a near future). As I said prior to the season start, I don't think their knees are gonna hold up. If they were to, then many more teams would have taken chance on them. Our medical science just isn't there yet, miraculously give new life to the dead knees? Where's Brandan Roy then?

The Pacers are over the cap, they couldn't give him any more than the minimum. And indeed, they didn't.

That Granger contract is killing the Pacers. They're lucky it's an expiring one. There are rumors that he'll be gone by the trading deadline.

Can't help thinking they only signed him because they were afraid of the Heat doing so. No idea why the Pacers would play him over Mahinmi who at least protects the paint very well. Bynum has been really bad in the time he has played this season.

Bird scoffed at the notion that the Pacers might be signing Bynum merely to keep him away from Miami or other contending teams.

“We don't have the money to throw around and let them sit on our bench,” he said. “That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.”

So? What else was he supposed to say to the media? "We don't believe he can actually help us on the court and we have several frontcourt players much better than what Bynum is at this point, but on the odd chance he's still capable of playing something other than bowling at a decent level without having his legs fall off shortly, it would be beneficial for us to have him riding our bench rather than actually playing for the Heat and perhaps saving them from getting raped by Roy Hibbert"? Please.

Pacers are over the cap and it's not like they can easily afford the double luxury tax penalty they will incur when they signed Bynum, even if it's just the minimum of 1 million (2 million tax penalty?), like other big market teams do.

It's not like they signed Bynum either without Bynum's consent just to keep him away from the Heat. Bynum reportedly had a handful of teams willing to sign him and yet he chose to sign with the Pacers for the minimum and to be the 5th bigman with Hibbert, Mahinmi, West, and Scola already there.

That's incredible. It looks like a great deal for the Pacers despite the personal baggage issues people cried about. However, I think it's kinda discouraging for Bynum how he couldn't get anymore than 1 mil for 1 season contract.

He probably could, but those teams likely didn't appeal to him.

Nobody took all this that seriously, it's Bynum ffs

Perhaps. It's also probable that there was no significantly better financial deals on the table. He was allegedly chasing after the money as he exactly did that during the offseason with the Cavaliers. I can understand it though, it was and is likely his last shot at the big bucks with his dead knees becoming more apparent.

As for those who are raving how Bynum's gonna make a humongous difference against the Heat in the post season (not NLSC but from all random media/internet etc), that's just a dream talk and probably has more to do with their wet fantasy than reality. Haslem and Anderson will have their usual problems against Hibbert just as Battier will do nothing good against West. Bynum is different though. He simply sucks now. You put Anderson on him, and that's good enough. Look forward to Heat making a run whenever Bynum's on the floor.

For a sucky player his efficiency is still average and not as sucky as I expected it would be.

Well, when he's on the veteran minimum, a "better deal financially" covers a lot of ground. The Sixers are presently the only team with the cap room to offer him a deal like the one he received this past offseason and somehow, I think the chances of that happening were very slim.

If he's really lucky he'll get a deal around $ 5-6 million...

Doubt it. He's just going to bowl his chances of getting a decent contract.
