Not that his season ever truly began, but nevertheless he'll
officially miss the rest of the year following arthroscopic surgery on both knees.
Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knees Tuesday and miss the rest of the season, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The primary focus of the procedure will be to clean out loose debris in the knees, a source told Yahoo! Sports.
Bynum, 25, was the centerpiece of the 76ers blockbuster deal in the summer, and it's possible he'll never play a game for the franchise. Bynum has missed the entire season with knee problems and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He made $16.5 million this season in the final year of his contract.
I'd say that anyone who offers him a max contract is hoping for a miracle. He had a standout season last year with the Lakers, but he's by no means a proven, bonafide franchise player and it'd be foolish to pin a team's hopes on him being one and remaining healthy. He'll still draw some interest though and rightfully so; it would just be unwise to get into a huge bidding war over him, particularly if you're really only bidding against yourself.

Based on his history of not giving a fuck the fucker never really wanted to play for the Sixers all along.

I'm gonna grab a table leg if the Sixers sign him to a max contract. I wish the Bobcats or Magic get him. Or Dallas!

And you're arguing to me that the Sixers is better than the Mavs? [/JapaneseTableLaugh]

Seen this coming since December. Do you see why I was so skeptical in August now?
Now the Moses Malone trade is only the 2nd worst in Sixers history, yay!
I really hope they're not stupid enough to re-sign him in the summer. Just admit you got brutally raped in that trade and let him go.

Send him to the D-League.

Sixers without Bynum, currently 9th seed. Mavs with Dirk, currently 10th seed. Both will miss the playoffs. Say what again?
I still think the trade was fine from a rebuilding standpoint except for letting go of Vucevic.

Does anyone think Bynum will actually get a maximum contract, though? Granted, lesser players have received comparatively stupider deals so it wouldn't be a total shock if he does, but surely everyone's going to be cautious given his myriad of injuries and surgeries, not to mention the new luxury tax rules. I still reckon that anyone putting max money on the table is bidding against themselves.

Aren't there gonna be like 20 teams with money this offseason? I think a few teams will be willing to take chances on his knee, possibly max.

Bynum and his agent.

Like Andrew said it's the new luxury tax rules. Teams are clearing space to avoid that and not to build super teams especially with a center that has questionable work ethic or durability.

What I've been saying: does the standpoint really matter if the idea is to build around a guy who's never been able to stay healthy except for the season before the trade? It just seems a lot of people let that one season blind them to the wider picture - bad knees won't get better with age.
As for the rebuilding bit, we also gave up another promising young guy in Harkless (though Doug would probably have him glued to the bench had he stayed in Philly) and a future first round pick. That - along with Vucevic and Iggy - is pretty much everything we had that had any value, except for Jrue. I don't think anybody believes in Turner anymore, I'm getting really sick of him.
We quickly went from being an okay team with a few nice assets and cap flexibility (therefore with fairly bright future) to a terrible team with no assets, hardly any picks in years to come (we owe 1st rounders to Miami and Orlando) and still flexible, which will be ruined if they re-sign Bynum. It is very important that they don't do that - otherwise we're in for more seasons like this one.

One has to be an optimist, I suppose.

So you have 6 win advantage WITH Dirk playing. Playoffs? LOL NO.

lol @ the D-League crack.
On a serious note, his future is like his knees atm.

What's that? ugh playoffs? We talking about playoffs? You kidding me, Playoffs? I was just hoping we win a game.

I wonder what the plan is for the Mavericks for next couple years. They lost their bid on Harden(which would have been fucking awesome btw) and Dirk's time is running short now. You certainly don't wanna waste last few good years of Dirk but it seems it will take more than adjustment to bring this team to contender caliber level.

I'm guessing they'll make a run at Howard as planned, in the meantime hoping that things don't work out in LA thus giving him incentive to walk.
Sat Mar 23, 2013 3:54 am
I don't believe Howard will leave LAL. It will be just too much drama. Best chance for DH is to skim through the shit-storm.
Sat Mar 23, 2013 10:07 am
He hasn't exactly done a great job of avoiding drama in recent years.
