Why would NBA teams want passionate fans at the games?

You must experience it to understand. I preffer this than the boring NBA season games.

That's one side of it. Should we also be comparing the amount of violence taking place inside Greek football and basketball stadiums compared to the NBA arenas?

Yeah, going to watch a game in Greece is exciting, as in you never know if you'll end up choking because of teargas, or getting beaten up in the process of two hooligan groups fighting each other. Passionate fans.

Passion is nice, that much is true. But I've seen how fucked up things can get here. All too many times.

Excessive tribal passion doesn't sell club seats, boxes, family packages and TV contracts. NBA teams would call such displays distractions from their planned, controlled and packaged product.

And they would lose their shit if fans set off flares inside the arena, let alone did anything worse than the Artest/Palace scuffle. Hell, large parts of the populace would, Obama would have to make speeches, Congress would have to hold hearings.

Flares? Oh Benji. Flares are the least of your worries if you let Greek "fans" in.

That was kinda my point, if you just set off an authorized but completely controlled flare in the stands, like the producers of the events often do at center court/around the arena they would go insane, ban you forever, arrest you, delay the game if not cancel it, sweep the arena, etc. Just imagine what they would do because of the stuff in the video alone.

I get the drunks but what's with all the flag waving? Who the hell wants to wave a big flag all game long? Seems silly to me. Each to their own I guess

Opening tip and they stop the game by throwing crap on the floor, which they did several times during the game if you look at the different clock times. They seem to be singing some song throughout the entire game, even during their teams turnovers. It's almost like what is happening on the court doesn't matter. The people waving the flags look like they could be employees, since they are standing in front of the crowd, which would be wonderful to sit behind all game.

Are they doing this as some sort of political protest or just showing that they are big fans of the team?

Pdub, big fans. That's how it is here in Greece. Fans are all too passionate, supporting the team no matter what's happening on the floor (unless they're going through a big losing streak or whatever), stopping the game by throwing objects whenever they see fit, willing to stab the opposing team's fans just because they support different teams. It's a whole other kind of racism here in Greece, it's utterly ridiculous. You can't go to games anymore, haven't been able to for quite some time, unless you're feeling you're willing to take the risk of being injured or just plain not being able to enjoy the game because of all the crap that's being pulled in nearly every single fucking game.

Games between rivals? Don't even get me started.
