Re: 2012 East Finals: (2) Heat vs. (4) Celtics

Is there a point in there somewhere?

If you tech him once, you can't - unless you're determined to be a complete dick - tech him again for the same dunk. So regardless of how many opportunities there are to tech the guy (which is what I was actually referring to with 'I'd have teched him twice', rather than actually thinking it'd be rational to tech him more than once), he should've been given one tech. Which we both agree on, rendering the argument about the inch-specific details of exactly where he crossed into techable territory ridiculous and unnecessary.

Well, then you probably should have said that instead of saying something that isn't close to what you meant.

I'm a huge Celtics fan... but honestly the Heat deserved this one. Crunch time offence was crap throughout the series... and well what do you expect when you look at some of the guys on the bench, especially since Ray couldn't get it going... damn, just needed one game of him like vs the Lakers :(

Awesome run by Doc, especially since they were essentially written off at the start of the season. The way he managed to pull a motley of pieces together to push the Heat to 7 generally close games is worth highlighting.

Dark days for Celtics ahead it seems, don't know wtf Ainge is gonna do... some talk about trying to get Howard (heh, nightmare for Laker fans :D). Also going to see whether Green can deliver next season...

Both Lakers and Celtic fans heading into an offseason with a lot of uncertainty and very little apparent upside...

the difference is everyone seems to want to play for the lakers, no one says that about the celtics

With the big 3 on a downhill, it's no surprise. And people seem to have this faith in the Lakers team that when they get there, they'll shine like a star. But you guys had 5 years of great run. Kudos to your franchise. Was the reason why the Heat trio wanted to play together in the first place. Might not have happened it wasn't for the Celtics.

For now, the Celtics are beggars again, not the choosers.

It certainly helps that the Lakers' key players are entering or only slightly past their prime and under contract heading into next season. The Celtics appear destined to be dismantled and not many players are in a rush to be part of a rebuilding/transitional phase.

I fail to see what is particularly attractive about the lakers cf. the Celtics...
the only decent building block they have is Bynum. Gasol seems to have been castrated for the last 1.5 years, Kobe's virtually done, they don't have a play maker, their bench is bum after loosing Odom.

There is much talk of the Lakers blowing up the team - the guy on the Blue and Gold section of ESPN (yes, I know, I hate ESPN too) was suggesting that the last two failed runs might lead to Gasol being flipped for a high pick, and even Bynum might be traded...

Obviously Howard is the big card, but IMO if he wanted to go to the Laker he would have gone now. He has pretty much implied he ain't going to pull of a Shaq and go to the Lakers.

Kobe might be on the downside of his career but he's not exactly washed up. Gasol had a down year but he's still far from terrible and could be packaged for a player (or players) who will be a better fit as Bynum continues to take on a bigger role. They still managed to grab the third seed this season after a slow start, they're in better shape to re-tool and continue to contend than the Celtics who are definitely on the verge of being dismantled.

pretty sure kg and allen are gone (allen for sure) and i got a feeling pierce will get traded this season. not sure i am 100% behind the idea of building around rondo but its a far better starting piece than most teams have had. though it seems his attitude may keep some people away

I think Pierce stands a good chance of being kept around and retiring a Celtic. If nothing else, his contract runs a couple more seasons so there's no incentive of him being an expiring contract in 2013 and while he's still a fine player, I don't think too many teams will be giving up quality young players or picks for an aging star with his salary. I also think the Celtics will reward his loyalty and keep him around to aid in the transition to a new era, though perhaps they'll change their minds the season after next when he will be an expiring contract.

I read that KG is strongly considering retirement. Allen could be in the same boat but if not he'll probably look to move on since he was coming off the bench to Bradley before the shoulder injury put him out for the season; while he was professional about the situation, didn't seem overly enthusiastic about it.

Right, i highly doubt Paul Pierce will get traded, he def will go down as one of the all-time great celts and has played in just that one jersey. IT would be hard to imagine them trading him. But then again, look at what the Lakers did with Derrick Fisher LOL

Pierce still has a bit more left in the tank than Fisher, I'd say. He's also got a contract that's more difficult to move.

the hard part is getting a good return for him. many teams would love to have pierce to put them over the top but what do those teams have to offer boston back? if kg and allen walk (i expect both to be gone) and we have a bad draft/free agency period pierce might get traded as a favor to him and to kick start the rebuilding

Trade Pierce to the Clippers so he can end his career in his Los Angeles roots.

maybe i can come up with one of those fantasy trades that seem so popular around here like pierce, 2nd round pick and filler for bynum gasol and first round pick. ya i like it

Bad contracts, mostly.
