2012 Team Awards

Sat May 05, 2012 4:14 am

Noticed Lamrock didn't include these and they're always more fun to discuss in my opinion. Been working on stats, have a few teams in already, will take suggestions for teams to do early (might make a separate all purpose stat thread), did the Sixers for shadow: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/820953/sixers.7z

But without my stats will post up some teams just spitballing with b-r to start things off and will come back later and make better posts using good numbers. Maybe.

All-NBA Teams:
C: Noah/Howard/Bynum
F: Durant/Love/Milsap
F: LeBron/Griffin/Anderson
G: Wade/Westbrook/Harden
G: Paul/Parker/Lou Williams

All-Defense:
C: Howard/Noah
F: Josh Smith/Garnett
F: LeBron/Iguodala
G: Tony Allen/Ronnie Brewer
G: Rondo/Wade

All-Rookie:
Ayon/Stiemsma
Faried/Vucevic
Leonard/Ivan Johnson
Rubio/Parsons
Irving/Isaiah Thomas

Thanks for making this. Ran out of time, but these are always fun. Here are mine:

All-NBA Team 1: Howard | LeBron | Durant | Parker | Paul
All-NBA Team 2: Chandler | Griffin | Love | Bryant | Wade
All-NBA Team 3: Bynum | Millsap | Dirk | Harden | Nash

All-Defense 1: Chandler | J. Smith | LeBron | T. Allen | Rondo
All-Defense 2: Howard | Ibaka | Garnett | Iguodala | Paul

All-Rookie 1: Irving, Leonard. Rubio, Faried, I. Thomas
All-Rookie 2: Stiemsma, Vecevic, Parsons, Ayon, K. Thompson

Don't know a whole lot about this year's rookies, but impressed by Ayon's numbers. Hornets have an interesting squad.

I really had a toss-up with Ayon, Thomas and Rubio, I decide to lean on Rubio's kickstart of the Wolves and then ignored the non-position to stick a frontcourt player and guard in there just for aesthetics.

I have Iguodala as a forward from the pbp, but I almost listed him as a guard to pick someone else, just wanted to note that since you put him there and I put him at forward. I guess we don't have the "real restrictions" like voters, at least those who can keep their ballot, do.

I'd rather put Wade in the second team, and Love on the first team, if we weren't doing positions. I couldn't decide on the four centers, I was juggling. I went with Noah, Bulls had to have some kind of star and his core numbers aren't demonstrably worse. Dwight didn't have the year he normally has and I'm fine with reaching down for a Milsap or Harden to reward a great single year over a true "better" (aka Kobe) if we're going blind. I prefer that over the pretzels Simmons twisted himself into on his podcast trying to define the "best player" who also had the "best year" and was also "most important" while not trying to pick who was "most valuable" or whatever other shit he came up with.

Kobe makes my second team admittedly a bit due to nostalgia and PPG. Interesting to see if he still makes an all-defensive team. The centers were tough to pick, as Noah has been underrated, and the Bulls do need a guy. Marc Gasol would make it if we had five teams...

I remember Iguodala starting at the 2 for a while last year, but I think Turner, Meeks and Lou Williams (like that pick) is their 2 guard rotation now. If not him, I'll take Rubio or Avery Bradley.

Re: 2012 Team Awards

It will be hilarious if Kobe makes an all-defensive team. The fact he has so many is depressing enough.

I wouldn't mind listing Noah and Gasol as forwards to get them on the team honestly. I'd say both have done more than Griffin, Milsap, Dirk and Anderson and I like half of those players. The need to get so many positions on the team has, like the All-Star team, cut a lot of deserving people.

I went with Lou Williams because I was looking at the various guards and realizing that basically nobody had seasons like we've expected. Deron has wasted two seasons, Kobe was good but he is fading. Lou WIlliams did put up a really good season and it was as a sixth man, but I don't get why that should be discounted. Didn't everyone learn last year that Jason Terry was the second best Mav offensively? Manu Ginobili only has two All-NBA teams which is the same number Stephon Marbury does. They aren't even on the same level. Lou had a great season for a team that was dominant before Collins finally wore out his welcome, and may get a second life in the playoffs.

And he's basically their only real go-to scorer! He was so important to the club because of that.

Is Kobe a better player, yeah, but I think Lou Williams did more for the Sixers this year than Kobe did for the Lakers with Bynum exploding so like I said, I think this is a chance to reward that. Especially for third team.

That's hot.

I accuse you of sorcery from what I've seen with Nocioni.
A primacy rating of 70 for him? WTF benji wtf. Only in videogames.
The team's projected W-L reminds me of Collins in Detroit, before players tuned him out too lol.

Look at his usage rate.

Also, statistics for players under 250 minutes do not come close to being within a sensible margin of error. Start giving anyone under that big minutes in the rotation simulator and look at the standard deviations (those two numbers off to the side in the top two rows, column AP) to see what I mean. If they aren't bold, you have a lot of noise somewhere in the results.

Shump should be on the 1st rookie team on his defense alone. i agree with the lou williams pick, and why would anyone put Noah on the first team and Bynum on the third team?

Not sure why you guys are mad at Kobe's all-defense nod. Only player in the league who can single-handedly stop L.A.'s frontcourt

Other players receiving votes, with point totals (First Team votes in parentheses): Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia, 19 (4); Joakim Noah, Chicago, 14; Iman Shumpert, New York, 13 (4); Paul George, Indiana, 10 (2); Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City, 9 (2); Josh Smith, Atlanta, 8 (2); Dwyane Wade, Miami, 5 (1); Thabo Sefolosha, Oklahoma City, 5 (1); Grant Hill, Phoenix, 5 (1); Tim Duncan, San Antonio, 5 (1); Avery Bradley, Boston, 3 (1); Marc Gasol, Memphis, 3 (1); Metta World Peace, L.A. Lakers, 3; Shawn Marion, Dallas, 3; Joe Johnson, Atlanta, 2, (1); Mike Conley, Memphis, 2; Derrick Rose, Chicago, 1; Jrue Holiday, Philadelphia, 1; Carlos Boozer, Chicago, 1; Luc Mbah a Moute, Milwaukee, 1.

Gotta love also Paul and Ibaka in the 1st team, Westbrook receiving more votes than Sefolosha and Iggy not even making the 2nd team. Kobe's now the best defender all-time, I believe.

Two. Alvin Robertson in 1986 and Dikembe Mutombo in 1995.

hahahahahaha someone gave Carlos Boozer a vote, and two people gave Joe Johnson votes (one of them was a FIRST TEAM). This year's rookie teams and defensive teams were jokes.

I think the All-NBA teams are:
Howard/Bynum/Chandler
James/Love/Griffin
Durant/Aldridge/Josh Smith
Westbrook/Bryant/Wade
Paul/Parker/Harden

Re: 2012 Team Awards

I don't think Ibaka being on the first team is too out of place (though looking back I see I didn't place him on the list at all in my picks), but I'd certainly have gone with Chandler on the first team. Boozer's All-Defensive vote is bewildering the say the least, right up there with Josh Selby's vote for Rookie of the Year.

Speaking of rookies, the All-Rookie teams seem about right.

Andrew wrote:I don't think Ibaka being on the first team is too out of place

Though he's not a complete joke like Paul or Bryant, there are a few guys who deserved the 1st team a lot more than he did. Just to name a few: Garnett, Smith, Iguodala (if you list him as a forward), Deng. Ibaka is a solid defender, but nothing more than that. He blocks a lot of shots, but flies at every fake and fouls a lot.
