Bobcats Hire .... To Be Head Coach

RealGM wrote:The Charlotte Bobcats will hire Mike Dunlap to be their new head coach.

Dunlap was most recently an assistant coach with St. John's.

Quin Snyder and Brian Shaw were also finalists for the position.

Dunlap has prior NBA experience as an assistant under George Karl with the Nuggets. Karl, like Charlotte owner Michael Jordan, played at North Carolina under Dean Smith.

Don't even know he was a candidate to be a head coach lol

According to the most recent reports he wasn't, it had supposedly come down to Brian Shaw and Quin Snyder after Jerry Sloan withdrew from consideration. Good luck to him I guess, he doesn't have a whole lot to work with but it's still an NBA head coaching gig.

looking at his history, he used to coach the university in my hometown which is cool but it seems like jordan's setting the bar pretty low so no one will be disappointed when they still suck next year.

Apparently George Karl is insanely high on him. I think he was an assistant coach in Denver under Karl, and Karl called him one of the best teachers he knows of. That's high praise for someone I didn't even think was in the running for the job. I hope Karl's right.

Still, it's a complete budget move by Jordan.

Apparently he used to coach the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL at one stage lol... The bobcats are dreaming big i see...

Although if that stuff about George Karl is true, then that's pretty cool, and this could be a interesting thing to watch.

George Karl on Mike Dunlap "He’s the most intelligent person that has a love for the game of basketball that I’ve ever been around."

It's sounding like it could be a decent hiring for the Bobcats, a good fit for a young team. You still have to set the bar pretty low but with their roster that was always going to be the case, even if they brought in Jerry Sloan or Phil Jackson.

You have a resume that's more impressive than Mike Dunlap's?
