Wait... so you can just go and "try out" for a D-league team? It's that easy?

You try out for the D-League in general and are put into a pool to be drafted, they've done it since the league started.

That's pretty cool. So hypothetically you could rock up off the streets and get drafted into a D-League team, so long as you're good enough...?

Yes, from the site:
Fifteen prospects identified during the 2011 Boost Mobile® NBA Development League National Tryout went on to play in the NBA D-League during the 2011-12 seasons, with one earning a GATORADE Call-Up to the NBA. Of those 15, five were on end-of-season NBA D-League rosters.

Well, if you have the $150 entrance fee anyway.

I'd say there's the rub for most hopefuls. Still, that's cool. I'm sure anyone who isn't nearly good enough or serious about it will be out of there pretty quick but for anyone with a legitimate shot at the D-League or even the big time, that's a great opportunity.

I would probably have to train for a good year before I'd be in shape to try-out, it's a pretty neat idea though.
