Rick Adelman out of coaching job with Rockets

ESPN wrote:Rick Adelman will not be given another contract and is out as coach of the Houston Rockets, a league source confirmed to ESPN.com.The source said that Adelman, whose contract is up in June, expressed a desire to remain with the team and still plans to extend his coaching career. However, in recent months Adelman's relationship with general manager Daryl Morey had become strained. The two had several meetings since the end of the season last week.

ESPN wrote:Now, Adelman will take time to ponder his next move. He said in the last week of the Rockets' season that he still has a passion for the job.

"I don't think I've lost the desire to coach; I think I still can do it," Adelman said. "This team has been a lot of fun. It's been tough during the season. I tell people that, when you go through it, it's not so easy. But when you work with a group of guys who just won't quit, and play above and beyond what people expect them to do, that's a lot of fun when you look back on it."

I would love him in New York over D'antoni.

Found this.

Article makes some fair points, but I would absolutely hate to see Adelman in LA. It also mentions the Rockets looking for the next Gregg Popovich. Seriously? Rick Adelman is a darn good coach, and to just show him the door when he's coached a defensively challenged team to winning seasons in his time here in Houston is just (N) . Wonder who the Rockets will appoint head coach now, but really, not extending Rick's contract was not the way to go, especially since he still has interest and enthusiasm in coaching again in Houston.

Larry Brown is available, so will Doc Rivers after after this season. They could bring back Jeff van Gundy again since T-Mac isn't in Houston bitching anymore. Spoelstra could also be a possibility once Riley fires him if the Heat doesn't reach the ECF.
The Rockets will have a year to search for a new coach because of the lockout. If all else fails, there's Mark Jackson. :proud:

I guess the handwriting was on the wall for Adelman given his apparently strained relationship with Morey. It's a shame, he did an admirable job given the injuries the Rockets have suffered and their placement in a tough Southwest Division, producing winning records the past two seasons even though they didn't make the postseason. He probably won't be out of a job for too long, possible lockout aside.

I'd choose Larry Brown.

Fuck. I wish GM Morey will be enlightened.

So long as the Rockets are willing to look for Brown's replacement in, oh, at least one year or maybe two.

Although he's under contract with the Magic beyond this season, I've read Stan Van Gundy's name thrown out there as a possibility, should the Magic fall in the first or second round and he becomes a scapegoat.

I'm not sure Brown would be too impressed with the zero defense wings in Kevin Martin and Chase Budinger here in Houston. But hey, if he was to coach in Houston, and be the one to get them to play defense, all power to him. I'd be fine with either Van Gundy coaching here in Houston, given that Stan is currently coaching a team that lives and dies by the three, something these Rockets are good at, but I don't see how JVG's halfcourt offense would help out this up tempo team.

Well I guess it was predictable considering his relationship with Morey lately. It would be weird to see him in Los Angeles, IMO.

Shaw does seem the more likely replacement for the Lakers. Kobe's reportedly been pushing pretty hard for him.

He knows the system, players listen to him, Jackson has been sort of grooming him and that Kobe is pushing for him is a plus.

I'd like to see him as the head coach. (Y)
