Don't pretend we didn't all see those pictures Lamrock linked us to. Don't do that.

And I don't cheat on shadowgrin, lean & the pet cat next door. Have a little faith.

I'd be all right with a whole lot of money and being in a wheel chair I think, but I'm not disabled so it's easy for me to talk. (Well mentally doesn't count.)

I hope he runs, not walks, so that he can jump in with his opinions so we can have a leg up on the debate that lets us put one foot in front of the other on the way to our final standing on a conclusion.

 I love how a greg oden thread turned into leg/feet jokes.

Yeah honestly being in a wheelchair isnt that bad if its just you've got a bum knee or whatever. I'm sure its a hell of alot of easier than being on crutches. And think about how many white girls would want to "ride" on greg odens lap. No matter what, this guy will have more success in life than any of us can ever dream of. Unless he pulls a MC Hammer/Mike Tyson and blows all his money. Maybe he'll pimp out his wheelchair. Have a TV monitor he cant see in the seat behind him that kinda thing.

Never understood the hype about Oden (saw alot of him on tv in Illinois) and am not surprised in the least by any of this. Guy looked 40 at 17. Is it any surprise his body's rebelling against him?

You wouldn't make that trade in person, I don't think, and for good reason.

Happiness, it seems, does not come from the end of work or hassles. Happiness has a lot to do with how things go, for you, compared to how they normally go for you. That's where Oden is about as unlucky as they come. The drop-off from where he has recently been -- about to take over the NBA -- to where he is (Will be able to walk when he's 50? Are you certain? What will he do in the next year that will be fun? Does he have friends around?) is just so incredibly steep.

sounds like a fortune cookie or something.

It really is a very good quote, but a little long to put inside a fortune cookie. In all seriousness this whole thing really sucks for Oden and the Blazers though. They've had to go through more crap than most of the teams in the NBA already. The Blazers have lost Oden (season), Pryzbilla (who knows how long), Pendergraph (season, waived), Roy (couple weeks), and Eliot Williams (season) to just knee injuries alone. Has to suck for Portland fans.

Karma for not playing Paddy Mills. Also it's the Sean Marks' effect. Wherever he goes, big men get injured to open up minutes for himself & lengthen his career (Y)

Not exactly the most surprising turn of events but a real shame nevertheless. Short of a miraculous turnaround with his knees combined with monster numbers, it seems like the "bust" label is going to dog Oden the rest of his career, however long that may be. However, I think in calling him a bust he needs to be in a separate category to the Kwame Browns and Todd Fullers of the NBA. The pre-existing conditions aside, the guy's had terrible luck with injuries but was putting up fairly solid numbers while playing around half a game when he was healthy; even if he never truly justified being the first overall pick, I think he could and would have been a very solid NBA centre. Maybe he still can be, though of course it remains to be seen whether his career can and will continue.
