Probably the wrong time to ask, but is lebron worthy of his jersey being retired from cleveland when his career is over? My initial thoughts is no just like Shaq probably won't be retired from Orlando, but he did set a few more records than shaq did
Sun Jul 11, 2010 6:53 am
Yep, the day after Toronto retires Vince Carter's
Sun Jul 11, 2010 7:18 am
They already retired it. Didn't you see the fires?

and now sells at $29.99! a 75% discount though

I personally think Lebron somewhat deserves his jersey to be retired, but with the way things went down in CLE, probably not a chance.
It will be sorta cool for Lebron to return to Cleveland later in his career though, to show the love and respect for the city he grew up in. If then, both the Heat and Cavaliers will retire his jersey I assume.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility. Say Lebron returns to Cleveland late in his career, he apologises for how things went down, he was young & naive, & the Cavs have a owner not named Gilbert, then yes, it's a possibility. He's easily best player Cavs have had in their franchise.

I think LeBron should be a lock when it comes to his jersey being retired in Cleveland. He turned the team into a perenial contender without a whole lot of support. If he was at the same level as Mo Williams, people wouldn't be so angry, but everyone knows there that he saved that franchise and the future looks grim without him.

@DanGilbertCavs
ANNOUNCEMENT: THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS will be "retiring" #23 next season in honor of the LEGENDARY DEREK ANDERSON
Sun Jul 11, 2010 4:17 pm
Well deserved, Derek Anderson has won a ring. With the Miami Heat.
Sun Jul 11, 2010 6:54 pm
Well since we're apparently doing it for Derek Fisher, I say retire every number until there aren't any left and everyone wears triple digit jersey numbers instead.
Sun Jul 11, 2010 7:13 pm
Or fractions, like in Blernsball.
Sun Jul 11, 2010 11:04 pm
its better to use "ban" rather than "retire" if its from Lebron.
Mon Jul 12, 2010 12:15 am
Yah, agreeing with IcemanOutlaw.
Mon Jul 12, 2010 6:27 am
Ummm...no. All his achievements were personal not beneficial to the team. One NBA finals, but it still shows 0 rings in the end

lol, are you kidding me? Without him they would've been fringe playoff team at best, while LeBron led them to 2 60+ wins in a row (both were the best record wise they've ever had). He led a 50 win team with supporting cast of Drew Gooden as the 2nd option, Damon Jones, Boobie Gibson to the NBA Finals.

And fringe playoff is a BEST CASE SCENARIO: more like nets caliber of losing would be my prediction for them in the past few years (comic) sans lebron.

Agreed. Right now there's too much bitterness for the franchise to even consider it but perhaps when he does it hang it up enough time will have passed or there will be some sort of reconciliation. I recall it took a while for the Suns to retire Charles Barkley's #34 due to some sort of fallout that occurred around the time he was traded to Houston.
