I don't know about you guys but I wouldn't mind witnessing a history being made with 18 games losing streak.

Judging by the tough schedule for the rest of remaining games, I think the Nets do stand a good chance at breaking the record. Many of remaining games are against the teams that are fighting for a playoff spot. With tonight's loss, the Nets as usual are back on the track to a massive losing streak. This really will be interesting. :shake:

Still ample chance to avoid it, though I still reckon they'll finish with only 10 or 11 wins if they do.

Looking at their schedule, I think at least 2 more wins are surely within the reach. I am guessing their best chance would be against New Orleans, Sacramento, Washington or Indiana, who basically have no point in getting wins. The rest of teams are playing for a purpose now, for the better position in the playoffs or to make the playoffs, so it won't be too easy for the Nets. My guess is a total of 9 wins.

At some point, pride becomes a factor in that. Do the Nets care enough to avoid making history? Do the teams that have little to battle for in the grand scheme of things care enough to avoid losing to a team with such a terrible record and being a trivia answer themselves? For teams with a legitimate chance of making the Playoffs every win is crucial, but I'd say everyone would prefer to avoid the embarrassment of losing to the lowly Nets. That said, I'd certainly agree it's still feasible that the Nets win two or more in the last few weeks of the season.

Pistons and Pacers this week, they could be tied with those 76ers by this time next weekend.

Andrew wrote:At some point, pride becomes a factor in that. Do the Nets care enough to avoid making history?

I think they do have the pride thing as their main goal. If this was a team of bad veteran players they may just say whatever and go through the motions, but these guys area all young and looking to create their niche in the league. They don't want to be associated with this record, that's going to stick with them for the rest of their careers, good or bad.

I mean, down the road people are going to say, "Oh look at that, Brook Lopez had such a great second year in the NBA!" then they'll get a response of, "Yeah, but that was the worst team in NBA history, they won 7 games!"

Quite true, I don't think they'll just roll over and phone it in the rest of the way but as I said you've also got the pride of everyone else in the league. I doubt anyone relishes the thought of losing to a team that stands a chance of finishing with the worst record in league history, even if their own season is pretty much going through the motions.

Saw that on Yahoo! NBA. I guess it's fair enough that he's standing up for the franchise and in a way it's kind of weird to spend money just to do something like that, but presumably the guy paid for his ticket and has every right to express his frustration and disgust with the team's performance.

Reminds me of an incident with former Jazz coach Frank Layden that made one of the Dazzling Dunks & Basketball Bloopers tapes. Someone behind the bench was jeering him so he asked if the person had paid for the seat. When they replied they had, he told them to keep talking, as he "just doesn't like to hear it from the freebies" (or words to that effect).

What douchebags those 2 idiots.

A good win by the Nets tonight. They're one win away now to avoid the record... Good luck to them.

It does look like they'll avoid it. Still, between the losing streak to open the season and the kind of record they'll likely finish with, they've endured one of the most dismal seasons in league history.

If you look at the team on paper, you won't believe the team will have such a record. But then there are the injuries...

Nets avoid breaking NBA's worst record with win vs. Pistons

Re: Nets set new record with 0-18 start; get first win vs CH

Sat Mar 27, 2010 1:37 pm

I have to admit I'm a little disappointed, as I've said before I don't have anything against the Nets but I was kind of hoping to see the record broken simply for the novelty of seeing a long standing and dubious record broken. You've got to admire they've still got some pride, drive and determination left after such a brutal season though.

Re: Nets set new record with 0-18 start; get first win vs CH

Sat Mar 27, 2010 2:29 pm

I am also bit disappointed, Andrew. Not that I have something against them, but to see the record broken, it's always something interesting.

The last 2 wins obviously were against the teams that have no interests in playing hard at this stage of the season. However, a win is a win, I guess...

Nets have out-played the Pistons every time this season, they deserved to finally win one... especially when Yi and Lopez absolutely embarrass our "front court".

Hopefully this means the Pistons luck into the #1 pick by being god awful vs an even more god awful team.

Yeah, then they can draft John Wall!

Detroit's getting Hassan Upside. Its just fate. End of story. (quote me in three months)

Disappointing to see New Jersey fail to beat the record. They certainly aren't the worst team ever (think I predicted yet another 35 or so win campaign for them), and even with injuries, they're Pythagorean record is five games above their real one. Now they've got that chop off their shoulder and have several playoff teams coming up, I think they finish with a cool 10-72 record.

No, no, no, no, I think about that exact fucking situation every time I see a mock draft.

Hopefully, win number ten will not come at the Bulls' expense. They avoided it this time around but they play the Nets again on April 9th.

Pretty safe bet, I think. Next two games are against New Orleans and Washington, so it could come early too. Especially Washington game is at Home for the NJN, so I think they have a good chance. Andrew's guess of 11-12 wins also very reachable, as the schedule doesn't look too bad for the Nets.

Even so, I have trouble picking the Nets in the daily predictions thread. It's been a safe pick picking against them around 88% of the time.

It's official, the Nets will not stand alongside the 1973 Sixers in the history books. Thank you San Antonio for ensuring the Bulls will not get the dubious distinction of being the team the Nets defeated to avoid history...just their second win back in December.

Nets chief exec brown bags it with bag protesters

Nets chief executive Brett Yormark had a roughly 30-minute “brown bag” lunch on Tuesday with a fan that he confronted last week after the man wore a paper bag over his head to protest the NBA team’s dismal season.

McDonald’s provided the hamburgers, fries and salads and the brown bags for Yormark, two members of the Nets’ radio broadcasting team and brothers Chris and Rob Lisi of Middletown.

Yormark exchanged words and pointed his finger at Chris Lisi a week ago Monday during the Nets’ loss to the Miami Heat. He defended his actions the next day, saying he was standing up for a team that at the time was in danger of setting the NBA record for fewest wins in a season (9-73).

New Jersey (10-64) has won three of four games since the incident and won’t go down in history as the league’s worst team. That dubious honor still belongs to the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers.

Good PR move, I guess.

McDonald burgers and fries... Top class lunch they must have had with a millionaire NBA franchise executive. Yet probably a few hundred thousand dollar worth PR move. :applaud:
