Re: Who will Replace Phil Jackson when he retires?

My bad, my thinking got mixed up with his return as a coach and his final return as a player. Images of him Van Exel flash through my mind.

Coach K. Has a supposedly 'great' relationship with Kobe or he is at least one of the only coach that Kobe Bryant has stated he respects. And although Coach K has stated that he does not think about making a move to coach in the NBA, you can never say never. I'm sure once Jax retires, Coack K will be mentioned.

Right now there are no clear candidates. I was thinking maybe Brian Shaw. As Andrew said, before Rambis was hired by the Wolves, I would have said him.

i second this, seriously

1. Fisher is of an advanced age in the nba
2. Fisher knows the triangle inside out
3. Fisher is very skilled at communicating with people, teaching young guys..etc
4. Even Kobe respects Fisher

perfect, now all we need is Phil giving some private lessons to Fisher over this season :P

You must really hate the Lakers to suggest I take the role. ;)

Interesting theory, one I suppose we couldn't rule out entirely but Coach K does seem like a college-for-life kind of guy so I don't think the odds a very good. I think there's more chance of Kobe being the player-coach though the concept has become somewhat antiquated in the NBA...at least in terms of a star player also being the head coach. Obviously there are still veterans who rarely play who also assume a de facto assistant coaching role.

Yep, Coach K has had his chance to make the jump however you never know. Anything can happen and if the Lakers were able to get him, I think it would be interesting. I think he considered not coaching the US team so that he could concentrate on his College commitments but he is back coaching the team to the next World Championships right? So you can never say never.

However, I do think it's a very very slim chance he would take on an NBA coaching role.

As for Kobe as player-coach, I just don't see it happening. I think he would be more likely to get involved in the business side of things and become a person helping to or managing a team. But that's just my take and not at all justified.

As for Fisher, I could see him joining some coaching staff however, right now I would prefer Brian Shaw to coach. He, after all, talked to the team in the Finals and sent shivers down the players' spines and they were motivated to take out a win. I believe it was in Game 4... can't remember exactly.
