26 year old Forward/Centers taken with #2 overall picks having injury-plagued careers about to be traded for each other. I don't see why either team would do this. The Hornets needed to shed salary so much that there were talks of them packaging CP3 with their bad contracts while the Bobcats are trying to make a playoff run, yet they are acquiring a lesser player. Just seems backwards.

I thought they were trying to shed salary too. I liked how Chandler played with Paul on the court but he didn't play exactly well last season (the few times he could play) because of his injury. So I like the trade for the Hornets.

I don't know any side issues in this deal, but I would take Okafor over Chandler even if Paul was playing well with Chandler.

I like how Okafor is finally is with a winning team. Perhaps, we will get to see him making a contribution to a winning season.

Chandler's contract expires at the end of next season while Okafor's runs through 2014. If they've given up on Okafor, they can at least shed themselves of a big contract the season after next instead of being stuck with a contract that will be up at the $14 mil mark in five years time.

Further the Hornets can save money effectively with this trade as Okafor earns 1.3M$ less than Chandler next season. If the Horntets have to pay the luxury tax (looks like they have to at the moment) they can double their savings --> 2.6M$.

I think its a pretty good trade for the Hornets. Saving money and getting back a player who is age-, stats- and style-wise almost the same as they loose.
I also think that they dont need expiring contracts right now since they have one of the best franchise players in the league so they dont need to rebuild soon.

For the Cats this trade simply helps them to clear space after the season (if Chandler doesn't pull his player option) which puts them in a pretty decent position for the infamous 2010 FA market:

Radmanovic, Bell, Chandler expiring contracts. (if they dont pull their options)
Mohammeds expiring contract for 2011 to deal
Wallace, Diaw, (maybe Felton), Diop, Augustin under contract to attract some FAs.

Chandler will definitely play the final year of his contract. His market value is at an all-time low (or so it seemed?). I don't see why the Bobcats didn't go for someone like Marcus Camby, or Jermaine O'Neal, whose contracts actually expire. In the latter case, they could've unloaded anther bad contract as well. This trade will look terrible when Meka puts up 18 and 11, and Tyson 6 and 10 next year.

Considering the fact that he managed to put up 14.5 PPG per36 with Raymond Felton and DJ Augustin running the point, is it really that far-fetched for your average to raise 3.5 points when you have a guy with a 50+% assist rate? Its no secret that Chandler's offensive production skyrocketed the moment he became a Hornet.

No doubt the Hornets gets the better deal here, Chandler having injury problems while Okafor has been putting up solid numbers since his rookie year.. He'll definitely have better scoring numbers with CP3 setting him up..

The Bobcats aren't going to be THAT bad; on the other hand, it's still a stretch to see this group of oft-injured players making the postseason next year.

The seventh and the eighth spots in the East are probably still open though, with whichever teams come together at the right time making the cut.

I'd predict that the Celtics, Cavaliers, Heat, Magic will almost definitely form the upper core of the Eastern Conference. Likewise, the Nets, Knicks, Bucks, Pacers, and Raptors will probably form the bottom of the conference, in some order. Not considering the Bobcats, that leaves teams like the Hawks, Pistons, Bulls, Wizards [if healthy, otherwise definitely out], and 76ers who could contend for a playoff spot from 5-8. I'd take any of those last few teams except for an injury-riddled Wizards squad over the Bobcats to make the playoffs.

I would too, but if it comes down to teams underachieving at the worst possible time or conversely overachieving at the right time, the Bobcats probably still have a shot.
