Josh Howard for Raymond Felton/Mike Conley?

Wed Jan 28, 2009 9:56 am

Just a rumour at this stage, though.

Josh Howard's name continues to pop up in trade rumors this season, and Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News believes the Mavericks might be able to get a point guard in return.

Dallas owner Mark Cuban has said he'll keep Howard, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't pull the trigger on the right deal.

The Bobcats might still look to deal Raymond Felton, and the Grizzles could ship Mike Conley Jr. to Dallas in a trade involving Howard.

Kidd's in the last year of his deal and the only other point guard on the roster (aside from Terry who's playing well off the bench as a shooting guard) is Jose Barea, who isn't terrible but probably isn't ready to take over as a fulltime starter just yet. Still, I would think that Josh Howard could net more than Raymond Felton or Mike Conley in return.

I don't know why Memphis would want Howard when they already have Gay and Warrick as their future wing players. They do need to get rid of that logjam they have at the point though.

Howard>Felton>Conley

The only way I'd do a Josh Howard one-for-one deal for a Felton or a Conley would be if they also sent over their first-rounder, making the chance of such a trade pretty impossibly.

Or if not, I'd probably want a promising, slashing swingman.

Perhaps a telling sign that the rumours are bogus. Dallas has other swingmen that could step into the starting spot should Howard depart (not that they necessarily should be in that situation at this juncture) but Howard's presence on the Grizzlies would only serve to take minutes away from Gay and Mayo.
