Monta Ellis Declines Option, Becomes Free Agent

Ellis declining option with Mavs, will become free agent

Monta Ellis is declining the player option for the final year of his contract with the Dallas Mavericks and will become an unrestricted free agent.

The guard's agent, Jeff Fried, said Wednesday the decision ''wasn't about Dallas as much as it was about what's best for Monta.''

Ellis was set to make $8.7 million in the final year of a three-year, $25 million contract. Fried didn't rule out a return to Dallas, but the Mavericks are expected to make a push for either All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge or center DeAndre Jordan in free agency.

What if he comes back to Golden State? Curry, Ellis, Thompson, Iguodala, Green. But then again, he'd want to have a big contract.

The Warriors don't need him, and don't have the cap space to give him the money he'd be after, so I don't see that as a realistic scenario.

Easily one of my favorite Maverick of all time. Just so much fun to watch.

I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns though. It'll all depends on what happens in the FA. If LMA is in, he's likely out; DJ in, he's in; No big fish in, def an IN lol

I want him to go to the Pacers. He'll fit in nicely with the 2 Georges there.

I'd rather have Barnes in that line-up. Also, I don't see him as a Championship player if you know what I mean.

I'm secretly hoping Wade and Eliis switch their places. The Heat could use young legs while Dirk and Wade can go for it one last time on their last legs.
