Wesley Matthews Done For The Season

Achilles tear. Done for the entire year. Blazers title hopes done as well.

Seems they got lucky with Aldridge's injury, but the luck ran out. Really tough break for Matthews and the Blazers.

It still feels like more and more players have been going down with ACL and Achilles injuries these past few years. Not that they're uncommon or unheard of injuries in basketball, but it seems like a lot of key players are going down with major injuries a lot more often. I still wonder whether there is an issue with shoe designs these days, whether something's changed in strength and conditioning training...indeed, is something different about the court, a different finish or type of paint used for the decals? Maybe it is all coincidence, a string of bad luck in a sport that does carry the risk of those injuries, but I do wonder if there are as yet unidentified factors increasing the risk.

Luckily they traded for Afflalo who will fill that role for them. Has there been an uptick in achilles injuries lately? that makes the 3rd one this season (Jennings, Pierre Jackson) and honestly I've never really paid attention to achilles injuries until Kobe got one. I remember Chauncey & Elton Brand had the same injury but can't recall too many from before that.

From memory, Dominique Wilkins missed half of the 1992 season with one.

Horrible turn of events. Matthews is easily the third best player on the team and I love his game. He's everything you want at the 2 guard position and would be an all star in the east. We'll still back into our first division title of the Millennium but hopes of playoff success beyond maybe winning a series is out the window.

Pretty handy that we picked up a starting caliber sg with Matthews's skillset a couple weeks ago!
