Larry Sanders done with basketball?

Tue Jan 06, 2015 10:34 am

Maybe so.

Two months into the first season of a four-year, $44 million contract extension to play the game of basketball, Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders has reportedly decided he doesn't really feel like doing the job for which he's being paid so handsomely. According to Racine Journal Times columnist Gery Woelfel, Sanders has alerted "some Bucks officials that he doesn't want to play basketball anymore."

Well, then...

Get paid. Go home.

Smart move by him really.

He figured out a loophole in the system!

 Eddy Curry v.2

So he retires now he loses 33 mil which is guaranteed for next 3 years. I can't imagine him walking away from that money.

Wow.

There is no way he's goign to walk out on 33 million dollars. If he really doesn't want to play, there are other ways not to without losing your money.

What an imbecil.

I am expecting Eric Gordon will pull a Sanders at some point

Doesn't have to retire.
Could do a Bynum.
He can also go to practices and games just for the attendance to avoid fines and suspension from the team.
Team cuts him, he still gets paid.

Nobody would care if Eric Gordon did it, he sucks for the Pelicans.
I think he'd make aa decent third-banana in Sacramento. He'd be Rudy Gay 2.0

That. That is why I love Sanders.

How can you love him?

He got the ultra rare opportunity to make a grand living(44 mil. Over 4 years) doing something he is supposed to love, and he has taken it for granted. I know he might be one of those players who had one good year and no matter the effort just cant get on that level anymore, but those are players in their late 20s, not youngsters like him.

For what it's worth, he's denying that he wants to call it quits. One might suggest he's backpedalling, but it's also possible that the earlier report was premature, or sources were taken out of context.

Bingo.
And I love Sanders because he seems like he genuinely has a good heart once you get past the bar fighting, lol.
Admittedly it's pretty hard to get past that, but oh well.
That's like asking why do our brains decide to work. There's no real answer, it's just what it does. And despite all the controversy surrounding him, I enjoy Sanders.

A Bucks fan on legitimacy of the source:
"What's the difference between Gery Woelful and this glass of mineral water? The mineral water actually has a source."

Zing.

The problem with a story like this is that Sanders does have a couple of knuckle-headed moments to his name, so it lends the report some credibility and you're more willing to accept it at face value.

Sources: Larry Sanders finalizes buyout with Bucks, has no immediate plans to return to NBA

Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders has finalized a buyout agreement on the remaining three-plus years of his contract, clearing the way for him to leave the NBA and work on the personal issues that derailed his career, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

As part of the buyout, Sanders will leave with approximately half of the $44 million extension he signed in 2014, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

Sanders has had repeated violations of the NBA's anti-drug policy and hasn't shown an inclination to immediately return to the league. Sanders could become a reclamation project for an NBA team next season, but his desire to play and ability to meet league requirements needs improving.

That would seem to suggest that the earlier report had a shred of truth to it.

Suffice to say he could've handled things better, but hats off to him for deciding to take care of his personal life and leaving professional basketball behind for the moment, as he clearly isn't able to make the necessary commitment. Hopefully, he doesn't squander the money he's getting in the buyout, and won't become another basketball tragedy.

He should hook up with Robert Swift if Sanders wants some of the good stuff.

Yea it's done wonders for Swift.
