Chris Bosh has reached agreement on a five-year, $118 million contract to re-sign with the Miami Heat, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
After LeBron James announced he was leaving the Heat to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bosh strongly considered a four-year, $88 million offer to sign with the Houston Rockets. He will get an additional guaranteed $30 million by re-signing with Miami.
The Heat are pushing to keep Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem on shorter deals, sources told Yahoo Sports. Bosh, Wade and Haslem all opted out of their contracts to give the Heat cap flexibility to improve their roster after James became a free agent.
The Rockets traded Jeremy Lin and a 2015 first-round draft pick earlier Friday to clear cap space for Bosh's offer. Houston is expected to match the Dallas Mavericks' three-year, $46 million offer sheet for Chandler Parsons.

I am honestly not sure about this. This move signals that the Heat haven't given up on the season but will compete. If Bosh can be a 9 wins player and Wade plays 60 healthy games, and the Heat pick up bunch of plus players with remaining salary, the Heat probably will make the playoffs with mid to bottom seeding.
I am just not sure if this is the course they want to take though. First thing that came to my mind was, let Bosh go, sign Wade for 2 seasons ala Kobe and Lakers and make moves for the future.

I think that Bosh has quite often been unappreciated these past four years in Miami. While one could point to instances such as his lack of contributions in the decisive Game 7 in the 2013 NBA Finals, he's also made valuable contributions to the team as they made four straight Finals appearances and won those back-to-back championships. He's not without talent, and it's hard to put up huge numbers when you're sharing the court with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. There's only one basketball, and only so many assists and rebounds to go around. The opportunity simply wasn't there to be a 20-10 player, like he was in Toronto.
Having said that...yeah, I don't know. It could be a fine move if Bosh is now able to step up and be a franchise player alongside Wade, but right now, that feels like a pretty big if. They might have been better served moving on, accepting some short term pain for long term gain, but I can appreciate them not wanting to have everything come crumbling down in the wake of LeBron's departure. I think they'll remain competitive.

they had no choice but to give him a max deal after james walked.

Not necessarily. They could've moved on, re-signed Wade as a show of loyalty, and started over.

that probably would of been the best move but you know how people are and the knee jerk reactions they make to save face. i am shocked that bosh took it though, i figured he wanted to compete since he was considering a reduced contract just to do so. guess he got used to life in miami

Pretty hard to turn down that kind of money, though. That opportunity probably won't be there for him again in his career, so can't fault him for that.

that extra year really in tempting. plus now he is the man again where in houston he might be a third option. he already has his ring so why not take the money and be the go to guy

Houston got screwed big time and I love it.

Bosh got the best deal this off-season. Wade got the worst. Will interesting to what Wade will do...

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a reasonable payday of his own, as a reward for his loyalty and sacrifice. It wouldn't be unwarranted.

Good for Bosh and the Heat.

i am expecting that to happen and i really hope it does.

I honestly would rather have him go to the Bulls and crush the fucking Cavs.

no... im not

Can't blame him for staying in Miami, he sounds like someone who really has fallen in love with the place and being from there myself I can see why.

Well, I don't think Miami is in a situation to reward guys atm, they can't only be dependent on Wade & CB to take them to the playoffs.
They failed to get Gasol or any other valuable FA. Best for them right now would be to attempt signing Deng.

I agree with the first part
As much as I would like to see that, I think Wade will finish his career as a Heat player. He is obviously a major part of the Heat legacy. And I don't see any reason for him(money, rings) to just leave all that for a slight chance(Bulls) to beat LBJ & win a ring.
Sat Jul 12, 2014 10:25 pm
A bit of a surprise at time as figured he'd want to go to Houston but living in Miami & max money makes big difference. Plus he doesn't need to be 3rd fiddle like he would in Houston.
I just wish he would go back to Chris Bosh of a number of years ago. We don't need another big guy shooting 3's.
Sat Jul 12, 2014 10:30 pm
Bosh made a statement not long ago that he wanted to show that he can still play like he used to, and that it was the Miami system that was clearing the paint.
On defense he's certainly gotten much better in Miami.
Sat Jul 12, 2014 10:45 pm
Defensively he's good at defending P n R & being able to defend out to 3pt line. Relative to what everybody else is getting in the market I see no issues with him getting the max
Sun Jul 13, 2014 6:11 am
Bosh is a capable 8-10 wins differential guy with defensive capability at increased role w/o LBJ. With LBJ he was 6-8 wins guy imo. It's great to have him back though I wanted him at the discount or kinda wanted to have him go to the Rockets for basketball reasons. The Rockets could have became a true superteam.
Sun Jul 13, 2014 7:26 pm
Yeah, Rockets messed it up.
Bosh's choice to take a 5 year max contract is reasonable. He's too old to leave 20+ mio on the table and he already got more rings than Chuck, The Mailman, Stockton and many other legendary players. Part of me would have liked to see Beard, Parsens, Posh and the Dwightmare together in Houston, the bigger part of me hopes that Dwight will never win a ring. So it's ok for me if Bosh and his talents stay in South Beach.

The Rockets are having a forgettable offseason. They gave up Lin and a 1st round pick for nothing because they thought Bosh was committed. Asik is either gone, or staying & disgruntled. They either lose Parsons or keep him & overpay him. Morey made a mistake by making Parsons an early RFA. He went 'all in' and the gamble failed. The only good thing that has happened to Houston this offseason is the play of Nick Johnson in the summerleague, and the signing of Ariza on a reasonable contract ($8m per season is okay in this new volatile market).
I blame Chris Bosh. Fuck Chris Bosh.
Sun Jul 13, 2014 9:23 pm
It was better for Morey to decline the team option rather than to lose him for nothing next year. But it sure backfired.
Fuck you Chris Bosh.
