Marcin Gortat Traded (finally)

Sat Oct 26, 2013 3:41 pm

Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has acquired center Marcin Gortat along with guards Shannon Brown, Malcolm Lee and Kendall Marshall in exchange for center Emeka Okafor and a 2014 protected first round draft pick.

“We have solidified our frontcourt by adding a player who has established himself as a very consistent and productive inside presence over the last three seasons,” said Grunfeld. “Marcin’s ability to rebound, defend and score will allow us to continue where we left off last season and pushes us further toward our goal of becoming a playoff team.”

Thoughts?

Exactly the kind of deal they needed to fill Okafor's void. Nabbing a bunch of crappy guards to rotate through to see if one becomes useful is a bonus.

So the Suns will use Plumlee and Len as Centers, maybe Channing Frye also spelling some time.

The Suns also added a 1st rounder, they have 4 for next draft (Theirs, Pacers, Wolves and Wizards)

The Wizards will waive Marshall, Brown and Lee to cut their roster down to the league-maximum 15 players in time for opening night, sources told ESPN.

It makes sense for the Wiz to aquire Gortat and I really like that move.
What I would not like, is to see the team waiving Brown and Marshall. I like both of them and hope Brown might land on a decent team. He's not a starter imho, but a very solid 7th player.

Phoenix now has:
2014 first round draft pick from Minnesota, 2014 first round draft pick from Indiana, 2014 first round draft pick from Washington
and then their own pick which can easily be a top 3 pick.

dat rebuild...

Poor Marshall.

Yeah, Gortat was expected to be traded to free up Alex Len in frontcourt and tank at full force no friction no gravity whatsoever.

Interesting frontcourt for the Wizard though. Nene, Booker, Harrington, Seraphin, Vaseley, and now Gortat.

Len looks like an anorexic Jao.

Well, yeah, NOW I know that.

And it was posted earlier in the thread too.

Good deal both ways. The Wizards get a suitable replacement for an injured player and could still hold onto that pick, since it's top 12 protected. The Suns probably have a decent shot of getting it though which would give them four first round picks next year, along with Okafor's big expiring contract.

On the bright side, he won't have to wear the Suns' sleeved jersey that he sounded anything but keen about.

76ers could easily match this, if they hire some one-legged war veterans...

They've had the trump card all along, the possibility of Evan Turner with a 30+% usage rate.
