Wizards to Unveil New Look

The Washington Wizards announced today that they will unveil the team’s updated brand featuring a red, white and blue color scheme during an exclusive event at Verizon Center on May 10 at 11:00 a.m. The event will be highlighted by the introduction of the team’s new uniforms and marks.

“The updating of the Wizards brand has been a priority we have focused on with our partners at Adidas and the NBA league office for the better part of the past year and we look forward to the introduction of our new look on May 10,” said Wizards Executive Vice President of Business Operations Greg Bibb. “We are excited about the finished product and we are eager to share the new designs with our fans on a day where our proud past will meet our exciting future.”

Sounds like they could be going retro with their new look.

I remember the Wizards' current jerseys being ranked as one of the worst in a BDL feature last year or possibly the year before, which I'd have to disagree with as I've always liked it since they adopted it in 1997. Admittedly there's no guarantee they're going all-out retro with it as the Sixers, Warriors and Jazz did - though it worked out alright for them - but it seems a distinct possibility with mention of the red, white and blue theme.

ATL, DET, LAC, NJ, & PHI doesn't seem like much until you think about how many teams use Red or Blue as their main color, which is pretty much every other team except: BOS, LAL, MIL, PHO, SAC, SA, & UTA. I don't really count NO either since turquoise is kind of an odd blue color to use in sports. also, Miami & Portland's regular away jerseys are black. They need to go back to the 90's when there was a bit more variety. i remember a couple years ago in the playoffs, toronto fans all wore red to support their team and detroit countered by wearing their red alternate jerseys.

personally, i was a fan of the Bullets color scheme pre-90's and I think it could work with the Wizards if they hire a good team to do it.

I don't like all these uniform or color changes. It seems like every sports team is doing this. I know it gives them a fresh start, etc, etc.

I see it as a $$$$ thing. Time to force everyone to buy new logo stuff. Owners Win.

To be fair, the old Pistons jerseys looked like crap and this is apparently something all the Wizards fans wanted. Doesn't hold true for any of the other teams, but they may well have equally legitimate reasons.

14 years is a long time to go without ANY changes to go without any changes to go without any changes to your logo or uniforms, so for a team like the wizards with very little history under the wizards name, i think they're overdue for a change.

They've changed the uniforms in that span, the new collar and fit, etc.

oh yeah they changed the collar this year but every thing else is pretty much the same as it was from 1997

EDIT: chris creamer says they lightened the basketball color they use in 2007, but it wasn't really noticeable. i noticed a few months ago that the Clippers had their 1st logo change since moving to LA.

What the hell is wrong with teams going retro these days? I mean I loved the blue-black-gold wizards.

I do like the Washington Monument circle minor logo though.
