Devin Harris out "at least a week...possibly longer"

Wed Mar 18, 2009 3:44 pm

Story @ Yahoo! NBA

New Jersey Nets All-Star guard Devin Harris will be sidelined indefinitely with a sprained left shoulder and strained deltoid muscle.

The Nets say an MRI on Tuesday showed no broken bones. Harris is undergoing treatment and will be out at least a week and possibly longer.

Harris was injured in a fall Sunday in Los Angeles after being fouled by the Clippers’ Marcus Camby on a layup attempt. He missed Monday night’s game in Denver.

Certainly not what the Nets want to hear with the season winding down and the Nets slipping back in the standings. If he is going to be out the rest of the way, hopefully he's back at full strength by next season. It's been a breakout season for him; it would be shame for him to suffer a setback thanks to lingering shoulder problems similar to Dwyane Wade the last couple of years though the report doesn't mention a dislocation so I suppose there's less chance of that.

Thank god it wasn't as serious as I thought. I watched the highlights of that game which also includes the part when Harris got swiped by Camby. I stared in horror when he landed awkwardly on the floor, one mind thinking "oh shit" and the other "you've had it matey, you'll dislocate your shoulder". Fortunately it isn't as serious as it seems and hopefully he'll recover soon. Hopefully he'll still have a good shot at being a top candidate for the most improved player award alongside Granger.

I think it will take more than just a week. Maybe 2 or 3, they won't risk him too much I hope

Granger's already missed a bit of time himself so if he's still in it then Harris should be, even if he does miss the rest of the regular season. It certainly gives other candidates a chance to snatch the award away in the last few weeks but the emergence of Harris and Granger will probably sit firmly in the consciousness of the individuals voting on MIP so it might not matter.

Meh, Better to get a pick in the mid-lottery than the 15th and swept by Cleveland.
