Bell, Diaw to be traded again?

Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:18 am

It's a possibility, according to Alan Hahn.

According to a report by Alan Hahn of Newsday, Raja Bell and/or Boris Diaw could be dealt to New York this season.

The trade sending Bell and Diaw to the Bobcats for Jason Richardson and Jared Dudley was completed early enough that the two can be moved again before the February 19 trade deadline. A person with knowledge of the situation said that the timing was intentional, since the Bobcats may have plans to deal one or both of Bell and Diaw this season.

Another source told Hahn that the Bobcats have continued interest in acquiring Eddy Curry.

Personnel wise, it'd be a great move for the Knicks to make since Curry is out of the rotation and Diaw and Bell are hardly scrubs, though Diaw's contract runs through 2011/2012 at $9 million a year, which doesn't help their plans to clear cap space for the 2010 offseason. Assuming Curry wouldn't opt out of his contract however, his deal (which runs through 2011) is at $11 mil and Bell's deal expires after next year so they would be shaving around $2 mil off the payroll. I could definitely see them pulling the trigger.

From the Bobcats point of view, a motivated Eddy Curry who's in shape and healthy would likely be a better option at centre than anyone else on the roster aside from Emeka Okafor and he'd still be there to average his double-double at power forward alongside Curry. It's a better deal for the Knicks though, simply because of the way Curry has been made expendable.

D'Antoni wanted Diaw and Barbosa in NY when he signed with the Knicks...

But Diaw for Curry... It's risky for Charlotte, Curry isn't playing and Diaw has good numbers in this short time in Charlotte

He's only played a couple of games for the Bobcats though and his numbers aren't exactly at a level that make him untradeable. I'd agree Charlotte's taking more of a risk, with the way Curry's been excluded from the rotation the Knicks would essentially be getting Diaw and/or Bell for nothing but as I said, when healthy and in shape Curry is likely a better option in the middle than anyone currently on the Bobcats roster and they would still have Okafor and Wallace up front.

Doesn't Diaw's awful contract run past 2010-2011??

I still say use Boris Diaw, and whoever else that's a available on the Bobcats roster and go after Chris Kaman.

A lot of teams seem to be trigger-happy with their trades the last few seasons. I hope NYK doesnt make a lot of changes that can affect Nate and David Lee's production. They're keeping my fantasy team afloat.

It makes a lot of sense and a deal that I would like to see the teams make because it would help both of them IMO. :) I want to see Curry play and I want to see the Knicks make the playoffs.

Diaw is off to a good start with Charlotte, I actually wish he would stay there so he can get back to his level of 2-3 years ago. I think that'd be a good market there for him to flourish again and hopefully get a better opportunity somewhere else at some point.

It does, but Curry's also runs past the 2010 offseason assuming he doesn't opt out. Bell's contract expires after next season.
