Apparently, it's
more than just a rumour.
Talks of a deal between the Knicks and Grizzles that would send Zach Randolph to Memphis in exchange for Marko Jaric and Darko Milicic are more than just rumors, according to ESPN.com.
New York President Donnie Walsh, who reportedly initiated the talks, will be the deciding factor.
Walsh appears to now be hesitant to deal Randolph, but the ball is in his court.
I can see the Grizzlies pulling the trigger on that one so they can bring in someone who's capable of being a 20 and 10 player though he's unlikely to lead them to great heights to say the least. I can also see the Knicks wanting to shed his contract and his attitude, though Darko's attitude and maturity have appeared questionable at times and I'm not sure how his occasional "This is what I deserve" approach would hold up in New York.

Knicks don't mind chemistry right now, all they want is to clear cap, which makes this a good move for them.
I feel sorry for Memphis fans sometimes.

PF: Zach Randolph/Antoine Walker

While the Grizzlies are making questionable deals, if they for some reason want to work out some kind of Kirk Hinrich for Rudy Gay swap, I can get on board with that.
Sat Sep 06, 2008 4:14 pm
Honestly, A Kirk Hinrich for Antoine Walker swap would be a good deal for Chi-Town.
Sat Sep 06, 2008 6:46 pm
why...
Sat Sep 06, 2008 11:09 pm
They have loads of guards, then they have Nocioni and Deng, who are okay, and a big man wouldn't hurt. Bulls could get something better, though, I think. And same goes for the Grizzlies, I don't think Kirk is what they'd need.

Mr. Walker is an expiring contract to clear cap room... But both teams are jammed at the PG position.... The Grizzlies wouldn't do this deal.

Don't forget though that they are the Grizzlies. Kirk Hinrich for Raef LaFrentz would be the most ideal, since Portland doesn't have a certified starting PG, and the Bulls could get an expiring. I doubt Portland would waste that kind of money on a mediocre PG though.

THEY SCARED NOW!!!
he's a lefty. southpaw, you think he gon' go right but he goin left.
Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:58 pm
If they could pull the trigger on that one, the knicks are in good shape (with regards to cap space)...thats one big contract out of the way and more to go...for the grizz, i believe that their motto is "helping other teams: that is what we do." remember the gasol trade?

Darrell Arthur gets a role model.
Tue Sep 09, 2008 1:37 am
darrell arthur got busted with mary j in his room..... lol zach randolph would have a great influence on this guy lol
Tue Sep 09, 2008 5:39 am
ploydiboy, Grizzlies traded Pau for half of their team now, young blood and cash, OJ Mayo, Pau's bro, Haddadi etc., I don't see a reason why they couldn't be in the playoffs soon. I mean, after some seasons, I believe that Rudy and Mayo will both be all-stars, putting up good numbers and having a ~50 win team. Don't quote me after few years, though.
Tue Sep 09, 2008 12:31 pm
dont forget, they are going to have zach randolph if this trade pushes through. and i don't know if that is a good or a bad thing for such a young team...this time, i remember portland... *sigh*
Tue Sep 09, 2008 2:32 pm
I disagree with you Oskar
I think the grizz can win as much as 32-35 games... as much
Remember that the West is very competitive and you need 50 wins or more to clinch a bert
They are young, a nice core with Little Gasol, Gay, Mayo and Milicic, but they need time... much time
Tue Sep 09, 2008 2:50 pm
Two, three years, we'll see..
Wed Sep 10, 2008 1:45 am
only if mayo and gay lives up to hype then we will see griz in playoffs in a few years. still, gasol trade was bit off. i like ploydiboy's comment how griz helped lakers. ROFL...
Wed Sep 10, 2008 1:54 am
I disagree. It's like they would have just not resigned Gasol who would go to the FA market.
Wed Sep 10, 2008 2:20 am
They can be a playoff team in a few years... but they still need something... Maybe a leader or somebody to raise Rudy Gay to that leadership an became his sidekick (Milicic maybe? or i'm just dreaming?)
OFF: Poor Oskar, nobody agrees with him...

the thing is if they bring zach randolph to memphis, it basically means they got zach at gasol's position at similar payroll. but then ny's first round pick could be valuable since they r likely to get high picks in the lotery.
In July, Walsh refused to send a first-round pick and Randolph to the Clippers for a second-rounder. The Clippers instead acquired Marcus Camby from the Nuggets for that same second-round pick.
eeek! camby even tho he's old as hella, Camby >>>> zach + ny's 1st round

Don't do it Memphis!!!!! It's a trick, it's like in those 80's movies where the guy is trying to get the most popular girl in school to go out with him only to realize that his best friend who's been helping him the whole time is a really hot chick who he wanted all along!!! I know Randolph looks like a sexy trade but don't be fooled, he'll destroy your team and poison your young talent, beware!!!! Even though Darko is up there with Kwame hands of stone Brown as the worst draft busts of all time I still wouldn't pull the trigger on this deal.

I don't know about that becoming the norm. The discrepency between the conferences still exists but all the same, all eight playoff teams in the West winning 50 games or at least coming close is a rare occurence (indeed, last season was the first time all eight teams qualified with at least 50 wins). I don't see any sub .500 teams qualifying in the West this season which likely rules out the Grizzlies but I don't expect a repeat of last year's record either.

Love the analogy, if not the movies.
