If I am wrong somewhere, just let me know, I left off the guys I thought were never really a part of a team and where I was just not sure. I think some players might be free agents and I am just not sure, like Gordon Giricek.

Is Tim Duncan a restricted or unrestricted freeagent?

Thu May 08, 2003 11:13 pm

arent jason terry and theo ratliff FA's this year??

Fri May 09, 2003 12:46 am

Jason Terry is a free agent, he has an option that he'll decline.
Dion Glover has the same option, but I think he'll opt for it.
Many of the qualifying and optioned contracts are not listed..
In other words some of the restricted free agents are not listed.

Tim Duncan has a player option, he can do whatever he wants.

Theo Ratliff is owed 2 years $21 million.

Some others I missed

Jumaine Jones - Cleveland
Kenny Thomas - Philadelphia
Ron Mercer - Indiana
Robert Horry - LA Lakers (team option)
Anthony Carter - Miami
LaPhonso Ellis - Miami (team option)
Jerome Moiso - New Orleans (team option)
Courtney Alexander - New Orleans (team option)
Andrew DeClercq - Orlando (team option)
Tom Gugliotta - Phoenix (player option $11M)
Keon Clark - Sacramento (player option $5M)
Speedy Claxton - San Antonio (team option)
Byron Russell - Washington (team option)
Predrag Drobnjak - Seattle (team option)

Not everything is published all the time.
I think I heard James Posey for example is a restricted free agent, that is why Denver traded him for nothing.

Teams that will have huge cap space opening are:
Los Angeles Clippers
San Antonio Spurs
Utah Jazz
Denver Nuggets

Good space opening:
Indiana Pacers
Orlando Magic
Miami Heat

Looks like they'll be some good role players and "spare parts" available this offseason, as well as the major free agents. Very reminiscent of the 1996 offseason, though whether someone will pull a "Shaq" is yet to be seen.

Fri May 09, 2003 10:55 am

yes another shaq will be pulled, it will involve orlando again, and also an O'Neal again

I'd really like to see Qyntel Woods get on a team where he can get some PT. I remember SLAM magazine gave him a good chance of being the ROTY but he wounded up on the Blazers, a team that can't afford to let their rookies develop. He's supposed to be like Tracy McGrady or something.

Will they have enough to lure him away from the Pacers though? Indiana will probably offer him considerably more than what other teams can afford.

I remember reading similar reports. Most of what I read basically said he was potentially as good as T-Mac, but didn't have the maturity, work ethic or dedication required to become a star. He'll probably be a Jermaine O'Neal type, taking a couple of extra years to establish himself because of the team's depth.

Clifford Robinson signed a 2 year contract extension with the Pistons a while ago...
