Mavs sign Diop....FOR $$31MILLION!!!!!

Thu Jul 10, 2008 1:51 pm

Great move by the Mavs to sign him back but for 5 years and 31 million dollars??? Is he worth THAT much?? What's wrong with the Mavs front office?

That's about 6 million a year?

Yeah I reckon that's a bit much for him. He's not that great. I'd pay him somewhere around the 10-20 million for 5 years....Actually I just wouldn't sign him :D

Thu Jul 10, 2008 2:02 pm

Already had a thread on this too. Diop is a winnah, offensive rebounding and not using possessions is underrated, etc.

Thu Jul 10, 2008 2:10 pm

Emiliano, There is a thread for this. See why I think Argentina breeds the second worst members? Come on.
Scoop, I thought you were banned, or at least left forever. Guess that was just 3pk. Damn...
benji, Yes and yes.

I must admit, I didn't see the other thread. I'm mostly emphasizing the ridiculous amount of money they are giving him. Just because I made this thread does not mean I'm considered in the "worst members" category.

All you do is either attack people, try to be funny, or just dick-ride people that have been here for a while. Seriously man. GET. A. LIFE.

And the USA has the first worst members

Lamrock, shut the fuck up please... for reposting there is the [!] icon, click it and its gone, ok?

OFF: Emi, es la segunda ehh... sabes de q te hablo je

Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:05 pm

C'mon, you could get a better player than him with that offer.. Not much changes in the Mavs line up for maybe 3 years.. They just added Jason Kidd.. Paid some extra dollars for Diop, and a big money on an aging future hall of fame point guard.. Diop could have stayed in NJ, maybe he could play again with LBJ.. "MAYBE"..

OK?

that's around 6 mil/year for diogu. considering flop darko getting paid 7 and 7.5 for next 2 seasons, it's pretty reasonable.

Re: Mavs sign Diop....FOR $$31MILLION!!!!!

Money to burn, I guess. I believe the Mavericks will be shelling out close to $30 million in luxury tax, if not more.

Fri Jul 11, 2008 3:06 am

The thing is, I'm sure they could have gotten players with the same characteristic as Diop for not only less years but way less money. I seriously don't know what their plans are regarding the off-season and the luxury tax...

Fri Jul 11, 2008 3:21 am

He's a familiar face, I suppose they figure they know what they're getting. I'd say Cuban is willing to weather the luxury tax.

Fri Jul 11, 2008 3:32 am

Diop...

The next Jerome James?

Fri Jul 11, 2008 3:40 am

Step one: Read this thread.
Emiliano wrote:I'm sure they could have gotten players with the same characteristic as Diop for not only less years but way less money.

Step two: List who exactly these cheaper players with "the same characteristic[s] as Diop" are. Mutombo is three decades older, they already have Dampier. Foster and Chandler already have long term deals at more money. Bynum isn't going anywhere, nor Haywood. Przybilla makes more. Milsap, Powe and Lee don't bring the size or defense and use over twice as many possessions.

Fri Jul 11, 2008 3:41 am

mmmh...I don't think so Alejandrov011, I would take Diop over Jerome James ANY day. The surprising thing isn't that they are giving a big contract to a bad player, but that they are spending so much money on a player that can only get you low post defense and a couple buckets here and there.

Fri Jul 11, 2008 4:25 am

If Bogut can get 14 million a year Diop can sure get 6.
