To me it´s surprise, that Gordon and Outlaw are that back, I would´ve loved if Outlaw won it, but it was just a dream.

Surprised, that Outlaw was so behind. Korver is supposed to be 4th. Such a great addition.

He should also win an emmy for his acting through the season. Seriously, suns vs spurs game 1 was the first time i seen a triple flop, involving Ginobili.

I don´t have a link, but best flop of Manu was in the Finals last year, when LeBron was going through him to the basket, he already passed him and then he starts flipping his head and arms trying to get foul from air, it was funny, but also pheafetic.

What does "pheafetic" mean? I have always hated Manu, but given the context of the award, he deserves it. He was an all-star caliber player that happened to not start.

I'm very happy Manu finally won 6th man ward. He had it coming for him! I'm not really that surprise by the margin between him and Barbosa though... Dont get me wrong Barbosa is a hell of a player and a great off the bench guy, but this award was one of the easiest to choose the winner out of all the others.

Regarding flopping...Manu flops yet WHO DOESN'T?? You mean to tell me no one flops in the NBA except Manu? Most fouls in the NBA involve some kind of flopping from either side.

Anyways, this thread is about Manu's recognition as a great 6th man as well as a great player.

I don't believe the award is stupid. I just don't like that the qualifications for the award can be exploited by giving a player off the bench the amount of minutes a starter is more likely to get.

That's one prediction right so far. At 1-0, I'm already off to a better start than last year.

Anyway, a fairly straightforward decision here. The Sixth Man award is given to the bench player who has the best season and in that regard, Ginobili was a qualified candidate. Whether he should have been starting or not, his role for most of this season was to come off the bench and that's the bottom line.

I get the whole argument about playing starter minutes but that's common of most noteworthy sixth men, dating right back to Frank Ramsey. There's no rule that bench players must play fewer minutes than the starters and with a player like Ginobili who can play two positions, maybe even three in a pinch, he can used in different lineups and thus see more time on the court than he would if he were more one dimensional. A talented and versatile bench player stands a good chance of playing around 28-32 minutes per game.

Oh, come on, guys like Vlade Divac and Karl Malone were leading the league in flops long before Manu Ginobili came over to the Spurs.

And there's hardly a "flop craze" ruining the NBA. They're an extension of the continued declension in referee quality, despite the league claiming they are following the referees better than ever before. Considering the system they set up, there must be some authority from the top telling them to let the "stars" get away with things.

Manu won it because he deserves it, he has done the best work so far coming from the bench-

In this article, D'antoni says that his own player, Raja Bell, is a flopper. And he actually goes to say that flopping is considered gamesmanship.
Players are gonna flop all of the time. It's impossible to stop it. It is just instincts. These players are in a situation where they have to do anything that will benefit their teams and that involves getting fouled and going to the line as well.

To say that Manu, who came into the league in 02-03 is a major part of the "flop craze" means ignoring the past years from the nba before Manu even arrived. I DO NOT AGREE WITH FLOPPING however, as I said before, everybody did it, does it, and will do it.

i never said he invented it, so divac and malone really have no point here as they no longer play this game. and there is most certainly a flop craze, not that it is really new, just easier to see now with the you tubes of the world. the point is though that flopping is rewarded now more than ever in this age of offense first basketball. in todays game the league wants to protect the ball handler more than ever before. you cant even look at people wrong without sending them to the line so of course people will flop. you can make big bucks and win awards by flopping like a complete pussy. again i cant say i blame them, its a perfectly sound move considering the current state of the nba, and people like manu are at the front when it comes to floppers.

all in all its the nba that needs to fix it. once the nba puts a stop to pussy play then the players will have no choice but to fall in suit. i would love to see coaches challenges being given on foul calls, eve if its just one challenge that you keep if your right and lose(with a timeout or something) if you are wrong

Im not complaining about no whys lamrock... i just want to know your point of view, im from argentina and manu is an idol for me... and when you heard people saying that they hate your fav player, you just want to know an opinion from someon who probably lives in the usa...calm down.peace lamrock.

Being part of the Spurs works for me also, I have hated them ever since I started watching NBA, although there are players, who I like also.(not saying they aren´t good team)

Maybe it's just nostalgic fog clouding my memory but I think players in years gone by were a bit craftier in their flopping, with more subtle performances. Players like Dennis Rodman would take elbows and forearms in the chest and sell them to get calls without being too outlandish about it. A lot of floppers these days sell even the slightest contact like they've been hit by a truck, creating calls out of contact that shouldn't result in a whistle.

It's probably also accentuated by the strategy of drawing charges becoming more popular amongst big men. Back in the day, even lumbering stiffs tried to block the shot whereas these days you've got players like Fabricio Oberto and Anderson Varejao taking charges in the paint.
