I can now officially say my prediction was half-right!

The last couple of weeks of the regular season, I was leaning towards Amare. He continued to be fairly consistent, while Ming kind of tapered off towards the end. I think expectations also played a part in this - Ming had higher expectations, but I think everyone expected him to be more dominant. Not very fair, but still expected when you're 7'5" 296, and possess the skills that Ming does.

Conversely, Amare surpassed the lower expectations of a high school player (instead of being another "wait a couple of years, trade a veteran and watch him thrive" player), and proved to be a pleasant surprise for the Suns.

They both faced difficult situations (foreign player/high school player) and played well, but I think Amare did edge Ming out over the final two weeks of the season. As much as I was pushing for it, I knew co-ROY would probably wouldn't be likely. But it did mean I was half-right.

I thought he'd get a couple of votes too. But that mid-season slump kinda hurt his chances of getting any serious consideration.

they say the award is for the regular season only but no matter what anyone say's that game 1 vs the spurs swung it for him.

amare was the top rookie by far.

I've picked 2 of the awards, with both Amare and Big Ben winning. going alright so far.

Stoudemire was the best player never to play professional basketball.
Yao Ming was the best first year NBA player by a long long ways.
Ming didn't grow up in America around players like Darius Miles, Al Harrington, Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry, Carmelo Anthony and Lebron James. Not to mention all the great other high school and college players Stoudemire had for compititon. Yes Ming played pro basketball, yes he played in the Olympics, but he didn't spend his entire youth matching up with NBA players. Amare Stoudemire is favorable for several reasons. Number one reason: Jumping from High School to the NBA. Number two: Flare, dunking and flashy game. I will go on the record that one day we will all agree Ming is much better and way more dominating then Amare. I'd rather have Ming and I believe his numbers and play deserved the Rookie of the Year.

The voting for all league awards are counted and known before the playoffs. There is not doubt about this.
The MVP will be Kevin Garnett, there is very little doubt about this either.
The numbers with Ming and Stoudemire look closer than they appear, Ming was much more productive with his touches. Notice the field goal percentage, the free throw percentage, the assists, the blocks, less minutes. I understand Stoudemire rebounded more, but in slightly more minutes, I saw him dunk on Olowokandi and saw Kobe dunk on Ming, also I never heard any stories about how Stoudemire was going to match-up with Shaquille O'Neal, or about Stoudemire blocking 3 of O'Neal's first four shots he ever saw. I have not heard this since Olajuwon, Ewing and the younger David Robinson. The only players that can effectly guard Shaq today are maybe Tim Duncan and Yao Ming. Not Stoudemire and yes I know he's not a center, so this is another reason why Ming was and is more impressive.

I think the main reason Amare won it over Yao was because he was a part there success to making the playoffs this year, and by the way there playing, they may make the 2nd rnd

Seems like sound logic to me.

I guess it depends on how much credit you give to individual awards such as MVP, ROY etc. They're awarded by members of the media, all of whom possess personal bias, etc. But sportswriters generally know what they're talking about (well, they all do, some just express unpopular viewpoints ), so you could probably say it shows that Amare did have a good rookie season. But the best? Well, voting was fairly close (458-405), so it's not exactly a unanimous point of view.
