Nene - Potentially Very Serious Illness

Sun Jan 13, 2008 5:55 am

It hasn't been released of what it is as of yet, but he has taken a leave of absence from the Nuggets since January 11th to be with family. No reports say exactly what the illness is, but quotes of read from numerous articles have me hoping that it isn't something serious, like cancer. Unfortunetaly it sounds like a life changing health issue, so I can only hope for the best for Nene.

Here is the story: http://canadianpress.google.com/article ... u2WkIyvTfg

And quotes that have me particularly worried:

"His health, his future, his life is much more important than basketball," Karl said after the Nuggets' 113-103 win over the Orlando Magic on Friday night.

"It caught everyone by surprise," Carter said of hearing the news. "I'm very concerned."

"You don't know what works and what helps in those situations," Karl said. "Sometimes, it's talking about your experiences, sometimes it's sharing some laughter. It comes in different packages. Hopefully, I will have some opportunity to sit down and spend some time with him and talk about this stuff.

"You never want to see a teammate go down like that," Anthony said. "We just have to stay strong for him, whatever the case is, and make sure he knows that the Denver Nuggets and the whole organization has his back."

"When I heard it (Friday) morning, that could have been either one of us," Nuggets guard Anthony Carter said after scoring 14 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter of Denver's 113-103 win. "It almost brought tears to my eyes. . . . He's like a brother to me."

"Pray for him," is what forward Linas Kleiza said he'll do. "But he's a tough guy, strong mentally. I think he's definitely got to be able to get better. . . . You feel bad because you're kind of useless. You can't do nothing."

Definately very worrying, if he has had a scare (eg a tumor has been found, etc) I really hope it's a false alarm. Best of luck Nene. :(

Hate to see a guy go down like that.

Hope he's alright and all.

I read a report from a Brazilian newspaper (crudely translated, by the way), that Nene is going in for surgery - this coming from his mother - for whatever the health issue is. This has me thinking, cancer maybe? (having it cut out) I may be overreacting to the uotes, but to me it sounds like something life threatening. I wish him well, whatever it is.

I read somewhere he has Hodgkins disease.

I hope he will be ok...

Looks like he will be alright..

He got his tumor removed.

A testicular tumor. Damn. I hope it's not cancerous.

OMFG. Poor guy. Imagine how it feels to go to your doctor, tell him you have a sore nut, and then, after he has fumbled you for ten minutes, be told that he'll have to operate.

Man i feel sorry for Nene, hes had the worst luck with injury and now this, something is just telling him that he shouldnt be playing basketball or something. I hope he can recover and im sure there will be a huge cheer and celebration when he returns to the court.

It's fortunate that the tumour was discovered sooner rather than later. Hopefully the biopsy will reveal good news for Nene.

Nut jokes suddenly went through my mind but cancer is a serious matter. Hope he goes through this well.

Wed Jan 23, 2008 2:54 pm

Holy crap, it was malignant. Good news is that the cancer was isolated and did not spread.

Wed Jan 23, 2008 8:26 pm

"The recovery rate is extremely high. In addition, the odds of a recurrence are very small," the Nuggets said in a written statement.

Definitely a fortunate catch. I know a couple of people who haven't been so lucky.

? Dare didn't die of cancer. And the condition he died from was discovered when he was in college...

I'm surprised Reggie Evans didn't find it first.

^ A pic with that post of yours would make the joke more clearer.

Ugh, that link Drex posted has an underwear ad with Beckham on it. I think I'm going to puke now.

Sun Jan 27, 2008 6:25 am

Really? I don't see it :? The thought about you seeing an underwear ad with Beckham everywhere is funny as hell

Sun Jan 27, 2008 6:44 am

It changed. I don't recommend you trying to visit your link just to see it but it was there. I even refreshed the page hoping that the ad would change but it stayed there last time.
I guess the ad changes when you close the browser window and not just refresh it.
Fuck you Drex for burning my eyes.

Bump.

Nene recovered from the surgery, he may even play tonight against Dallas.

Good news for the Nuggets but even better news for Nene. Hopefully the odds remain in his favour and there is no recurrence.
