Shouldn't be a bid deal. But just when you think Ron has changed his ways, he does this.
Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:58 pm
i wonder if he did anything besides shoving
Tue Mar 06, 2007 4:08 pm
I'm getting sick of Artest being on the news all the time, no matter how 'hard' he is... the man should concentrate on making his team better for a change.
Tue Mar 06, 2007 5:00 pm
This is the end of Ron-Ron... This is his last big contract... He won't get another.
Teams have probably had enough of Artest for one life time now... And they won't gamble on him ever again. He is such a big distraction with all his legal problems and other issues...
He is done... Mark my words...
Tue Mar 06, 2007 8:59 pm
Artest may be an idiot, but he has a nice moustache
Wed Mar 07, 2007 2:18 am
use the "she was asking for it" line Artest.
Wed Mar 07, 2007 3:31 am
I don't think this is likely to happen anytime soon, but one of these days, I can see him getting waived. Like Isaiah Rider.
Wed Mar 07, 2007 3:44 am
I think he's gone...if not immediately then next season.
The Maloofs are trying to convince Stern they can move the Kings to Las Vegas...and with Stern already concerned about the violence there, they're going to bring Ron Artest & his criminal record?
Even a superstar like Jason Kidd had to be traded out of Phoenix because of domestic issues.
These guys are more than just basketball players...to a certain extent they represent the city and people are sensitive to that. Chicagoans certainly took pride that Jordan represented Chicago back then.

What made you think Ron had changed his ways? Was it his mysterious absences from seemingly every other game for no apparent reason? Was it his fake injuries? Was it his ongoing investigation for animal cruelty?
Yeah, it certainly seemed like Ron was cleaning himself up.
Wed Mar 07, 2007 8:39 am
Well I guess I haven't been paying attention that well. I was under the impression that he hadn't been doing anything wrong while in Sacramento.
Wed Mar 07, 2007 9:41 am
Why does this deserve a thread, everyone knows Artest gets arrested every other day
Wed Mar 07, 2007 4:13 pm
Is Ron Artest gonna have to slap a bitch?

Agreed. The seven million dollar question is, is anyone willing to take a chance on him now that it's painfully apparent he's probably never going to get his head on straight? Is there anyone who's remotely willing to take a chance on him bringing his talent to town and keeping out of trouble?

It wouldn't surprise me either.

the article wrote:Other Kings have had trouble, as well. New coach Eric Musselman pleaded no contest in January to driving under the influence of alcohol after an arrest in October. He was ordered to pay $580 in fines and penalties and spend 48 hours on a work project.
The Kings are the new Blazers.
As to who would want Artest: a playoff team looking for that extra bit of defense to put them over the edge. A team with a coach and players that could control him. I'd guess the Lakers or the Spurs. A Bowen/Artest combo on the perimeter = Scary.

Miami.....i mean, they WANTED antoine walker
Thu Mar 08, 2007 5:15 am
i dont think artest is done. as long as a player can perform good and help a team win they will have a job, no matter how big of an asshole someone is. terrel owens anyone?
Thu Mar 08, 2007 8:51 am
I agree with you Sauru, I just think eventually he'll have an incident happen that will be bad enough for the average player to get a lengthy suspension, but he'll just get kicked out of the league.
Thu Mar 08, 2007 9:09 am
that i do agree with

True, but would such a team be willing to trade away a more level-headed player who's a key member of their rotation (surely the Kings would at least try to get decent value in any deals they seek) to acquire a talented but frequently troubled player such as Artest? If the Kings cut him then I'd expect quite a few teams to show interest in him, if only it meant essentially renting him for a season since they could cut ties with him if he causes trouble without it being a financial disaster. However, it would take a lot of trust to exchange a key player for him assuming the Kings do indeed shop him this offseason.
Thu Mar 08, 2007 2:55 pm
I just pray he's not suicidal...
To be honest I cant really pass judgment until everything regarding this incident is revealed. I dont recall heaing much about the guy for a while before this incident so I assume the effort to stay in line was there. I'll say this though, I'd love him in LA.

Sorry, I meant after his hypothetical dumping, when nobody is willing to pay top dollar for him.
Fri Mar 09, 2007 5:56 pm
In that case, absolutely. As I said, a team need only rent him for a year and dump him if he plays up making it a very low risk experiment.
Anyone want to go out on a limb and boldly predict he'll be cut this coming offseason? At this stage I'd say a trade is more likely but if his legal problems escalate then there might be an outside chance.

The thing with Ron-Ron is all the hassle he brings with him. He can perform very well still and does put up good numbers and probably is a pain in the beehind on defense, but he can and apparently does disturb the team chemistry... He is a distraction.
If he is cut or traded or something in between. Sac-town will most likely get an expiring contract for him or some young guys that haven't payed off, at least not yet. Kwame Brown for Artest trade I could see happening...
If I was a contender like Dallas... I wouldn't get a distraction to my team no matter how much he would bring to the team. Right now the top teams of Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio and Houston are right there... Okay houston is a step back from the top three... But those teams are playing well and I guess the locker rooms are "good" as well. So if you can get some extra points and steals and rebounds with Artest it doesn't help if other players become less happy and drop in their stats...
So to summarize this... If Artest is cut, he will likely get that rental deal from a team that is outside of the primary contenders. I don't think contenders are willing to risk their chemistry with Artest. But teams wanting to get in there, like someone from eastern conference might want Artest... Like Cleveland or Detroit or Chicago etc. Or one of the lower seeded west teams like Lakers or Denver etc.
Iverson, Anthony and Artest... Talk about a fearsome and troublesome threesome...

And watch the Nuggets implode. I think that signing Ron Artest would be a last ditch effort on a fringe-dwelling team. A team like the Clippers. Maybe even a Maggette trade.

I think if another incident or arrest occurs this off-season, then yes. he will be cut.
