Hey guys, I got a quick question. Do you guys know who was the first player to record a triple-double?
Thanks ahead of time.

I can't find the answer anywhere, I did some research and the first year the NBA started counting points, rebounds and assists was 1951. I'd imagine the most likely players would've been Dolph Schayes, that season he averaged 17ppg, 16.8rpg and 3.8apg... all of which were in the top 10 in the league for that team. There's also Bob Cousy who put up 15/7/5, though Schayes was alot taller than Cousy so he'd find it easier to get points/boards, he'd just have to fill it out with assists.

Hm, tough one. I bet they didn't emphasize it that much back then. And the word 'triple-double' must've been invented some years later... But it's a good question, I just got no clue.

could've sworn Chick Hearn (long-time Lakers announcer Rest in peace, Chick) made it up in the 60s or 70s.

Jae was right. It's Dolph Schayes. I found it here

They spelled his name wrong though.
