Free agent chatter

Fri Jun 14, 2019 1:46 am

The rumor is that Kyrie is hiring ROC nation sports. Is his move to the nets confirmed? Also, was Durant expected to join him? Will he still sign with the nets or anybody even with the injury?

Doesn't Durant have a player option? If so, I'm guessing he'll just ride out this next year and reevaluate his options next offseason.

Ah, I hadn't even thought of that. He could potentially opt in and try to come back in the playoffs to show potential suitors that he's 100 percent

Just checked and he does have an option. For all his talent, I don't think anyone is going to give him a big multi-year deal until they see how he bounces back, so I imagine he'll stay put for one more season at least.

I could see a team being so desperate for a superstar that they offer Durant big money despite the injury

Re: Free agent chatter

Fri Jun 14, 2019 2:39 pm

The latest reports have him out the entire 2019 season, though. I don't think he opts out of guaranteed money, given the circumstances.

Re: Free agent chatter

Yeah I could see him taking the money, sitting out the season, and hopefully be in the same spot next year minus the injury. Imagine him and AD teaming up lol

Or judging by his past actions, he takes the hardest road and signs with the Raptors

For whatever it's worth, David Aldridge reported the other day that Durant's injury probably won't deter the teams trying to sign him.

Interesting. Still comes down to him opting out, though.

It's sounding like Kyrie Irving is going to Brooklyn, barring a change of heart.

Where does everyone think Kawhi Leonard will end up? People have picked up on the fact he referred to the Raptors as "they" rather than "we" in the aftermath of winning the championship, and it's difficult not to read something into that. I'd say they at least have a chance of keeping him, though.

At this point, Kawhi probably already made up his mind regarding his free agency. Be it to the Lakers, the Clippers, or whatever. He's a weird guy, this is the first time I've seen someone win a championship and go "I don't know if he's staying."

Perhaps he and his uncle came to Toronto thinking they were going to leave no matter what happened and maybe he's sticking to it

Evaluating the Raptors, two key players are very old, Lowry and Gasol. And they have been regressing over the years evidently by their stats. Kinda like how it was like with Tony Parker, Ginobili, and Duncan. What can the Raptors do to remain top status in the East with full of up and rising star players?

Re: Free agent chatter

Tue Jun 18, 2019 12:55 pm

Duncan and Ginobili were both older than Gasol and Lowry when they won the championship in 2014, when Leonard was 22 and still yet to become the player he is now. Lowry and Gasol are past their prime, but not unable to contribute. The Raptors would still have Siakim, VanVleet, and Leonard if he stayed, so they'd still be in pretty good shape.

The belief making the front-office rounds tonight is that Al Horford already knows there’s a four-year contract worth in excess of $100 million waiting out there for him June 30 .. knowledge that led to Horford’s talks with the Celtics dissolving

Obviously he is a good player, but he just turned 33. Have teams learned nothing from the Chris Paul situation?

Re: Free agent chatter

$25 million may be the new $8 million given the way salaries have blown up, but it still seems risky given his age.

what a nightmare of an offseasaon it would be for Boston if horford and irving both walked

Re: Free agent chatter

KD has apparently opted out after all: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/270 ... yer-option

There's also speculation that the Rockets might land Jimmy Butler. As if the situation wasn't already combustible with Harden and CP3 reportedly not on good terms.

It would provide great drama for us fans, lol.

Kyrie likes the Nets 'Infrastructure';

It'd also be Butler's third team in as many seasons. D'Angelo Russell potentially returning to the Lakers is also crazy.

Re: Free agent chatter

Thu Jun 27, 2019 1:26 pm

Durant declined his player option. I think the only way he returns to the Warriors is if Draymond is gone.
I'm still inclined to believe Durant and Kyrie teaming up, or Durant going to the Clippers if Kawhi doesn't end uo there.

Re: Free agent chatter

It's starting to feel that way, but I can't help thinking that the rift is being blown out of proportion because it's a juicy story.
