2015 Playoffs: (1) Golden State vs. (8) New Orleans

Postby Lamrock on Thu Apr 16, 2015 12:18 pm

And with New Orleans beating the Spurs, the Thunder are out! The Pelicans benefit from an injury plagued season from OKC to sneak into the playoffs. Make no mistake, this team would have not had a prayer to make it in had Durant stayed healthy. Then again, had Durant, Davis and Holiday played all year, perhaps it would be Dallas on the outside looking in?

Anyway, I got the Dubs in 5. I think AD will put up one for the ages at home, but the Warriors are just way better.

Warriors in five, but at least a couple of their victories will be very close. The Pelicans won't embarrass themselves.

No matter who wins, I just hope they persistently pursue the pumpkin (I voted the last option).

Sweep for the Golden Boys but with one game where Anthony Davis will play like Billt Chamberussellain and one game where he will play like Hasheem Thabeet in D-League.

This series will be FUN regardless the result because of the match up.

PAINT BATTLE
UNIBROW/Asik versus Bogut/Green: Asik and Bogut play the similar role for their team. They will bang, and rebound under the rim. I expect a lot of skin to skin plays between these two. What's interesting is Green and Unibrow though. Green doesn't have enough size though he's a stellar defender. Also Unibrow might be drawn out from the paint often to cover Green as he shoots threes. This is a battle between PFs with different styles.

Back ups are quite nice too with these two teams. Ryan Anderson is NO JOKE. When he gets hot, you better damn guard him. In contrast to his style though, David Lee is a back up big for the Warriors. He's got soft touch and can rebound. Don't sleep on Ajinca and Warriors' Speights/Ezeli. Both team are deep.

DEFENDING CURRY then KLAY
Both Cole and Jrue are very nice defenders. But I don't think Curry will have problem getting a shot off. He uses screens, p&r, all kinds of deception to score and make plays anyway. Besides, other than Cole and Jrue, the Pelicans lack real defensive wing. Eric Gordon and Tyreke aren't anything Kawhi, Iggy, Paul George like.

The Warriors are so overpowering in wings. And Curry is simply unstoppable. This is where Warriors will win their battle as usual. Pelicans got no Kawhi to slow anyone down.

Warriors in 5.

People forget how talented the Pelicans roster really is/was.

Obviously Davis will go mad this series as this is the perfect situation for his playoff debut. Going and learning against hte best team in basketball thi season.

Evans, Gordon and Holiday we're all above average at some point in time.

Warriors in 6. Every start is hard.

This is definitely going to the Warriors, no doubt. But I predict it will have to go to 6 games. As Meno said, the Pelicans are actually a very good team that goes about 8 or 9 deep. I think it comes down to Gordon and Evans' efficiency. If they shoot below 45 then the Pelicans lose in 5. But if they're above 45, they'll stretch out their playoff dream for one more game.

I'd disagree. They need a whole team effort. 4 of their 5 starters are above average DEFENDERS. So by default, NO needs all 5 players to produce when GSW has their starting lineup on the floor.

Dubs in 5, despite 35-15-3 from the Unibrow because of mismatches. Green's too small and Bogut's too slow.

It sets the tone for the rest of the series: the Warriors coming out on top, but the Pelicans playing valiantly and giving a more than respectable effort.

Fire everyone, waive the entire team. How do you give up that many offensive rebounds with Davis and Asik on your roster?

You have 2 or 3 chances to intentionally foul on that last possession... I don't care how old-school you are, the Warriors are just too dangerous from 3 to leave it to chance.

Max Contract Eric Gordon took one shot in the fourth, Jrue Holiday took one shot in the fourth, and they were both on the floor with Pondexter (two attempts) down the stretch when the lead evaporated. Evans took five shots and missed them all. Between the four of them they made one basket in the fourth. Davis added another.

Williams took out Anderson even though he was the only one scoring. TO GO EVEN SMALLER even as they were getting killed on the offensive boards.

Warriors went on a 29-8 run over the last 5 minutes of the fourth and first 2 minutes of the OT. Were like 20-2 on second chance points.

Ryan Anderson is quite a good player. It's gotta suck to play with such lousy backcourt though.

I put that loss more on the Pelicans not being able to box out.....they gave up I believe 20 offensive rebounds. I'm watching the game and I'm saying to myself, can someone put a body on Draymond Green? That cat was like Moses Malone out there! And why didn't Ryan Anderson get more touches?

Pelicans played soft and paid for it. Monty Williams deserves heat, too. He's got to tell his PG, get the damn ball to the hot hand!

NBA: Warriors' Stephen Curry was fouled on tying 3-pointer in Game 3

I guess it doesn't matter in the long run, they won the game. Still, for what it's worth, they feasibly could've won it in regulation, and with Curry's free throw shooting, probably would have.
