Why does your favorite NBA player wear that number?

Many players pick numbers because they wore it in high school or it's the number of their favorite player. Some are forced to change because of veterans or retired numbers.
I already knew a lot of them, but there was some cool insight that I did not know on some.

Some that they didn't list that came to mind:
-Arenas switching to #6 for "six shooter" after his gun incident. Then switching to #9 after the NBA found out the reason for picking #6.
-Metta wearing 37 for # of weeks Michael Jackson's Thriller was #1
-Artest wearing #23 & 91 for Jordan & Rodman
-Artest wearing #93 and 96 because it spelled "QB" for Queensbridge in their respective fonts

It's really not all that complicated why Chris Paul wears the No. 3. His father and brother also have the initials C.P. Since the Los Angeles Clippers point guard is the third person with those initials, he is CP3. Voila!

That actually makes his nickname a little more creative than I originally thought. A little.

Throughout his young playing career in Germany, Nowitzki wore No. 14. So, when he joined the Dallas Mavericks in 1998, Dirk wanted to keep it going but there was one problem: Robert Pack already had the number and he wasn't going to give his number “to no rookie,” according to Nowitzki. He tried to get Pack to shoot for it, but nothing worked. Eventually, Nowitzki decided to flip the numbers to No. 41 and it has obviously stuck.

Probably a good call on the Pack Man's part.

I always thought Kirilenko's reason for his number was pretty badass.

Since Parker idolized him so much, he not only did took his number, he also applied for French citizenship at the age of 15, even though he could've chosen among four nationalities.

Parker wasn't really French?

I had the same reaction
Born in Belgium. His dad was african american, his mother was dutch and as you've probably read, his grandfather was french. Those were the four nationalities he had to choose from. Wow
