Rockets targeting Chris Bosh

The Houston Rockets, if they fail to land free agent Carmelo Anthony, plan to shift their attention to trying to swipe Chris Bosh away from the Miami Heat, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com on Thursday night that the Rockets -- while still holding out hope that Anthony will choose them after hosting him Wednesday in Houston -- have already let Bosh know how interested they are in bringing the Dallas native back to Texas.

Thursday's revelations from ESPN.com that James' agent, Rich Paul, has fielded pitches from multiple teams in Cleveland this week for James' services would appear to at least raise the possibility that the Heat's star trio -- which also features Miami lifer Dwyane Wade -- might actually be breaking up.

The widespread assumption around the league, when free agency commenced Tuesday at 12:01 a.m., was that James, Wade and Bosh had all but agreed to return to the Heat after hashing out new annual salaries amongst themselves.

Most league observers continue to believe that Heat president Pat Riley will ultimately convince all three Heat stars to re-up by next week, even if Bosh and Wade are forced to take pay cuts.

But sources say the Rockets are determined to test Bosh's resolve in the event Anthony elects to return to the New York Knicks or to choose one of his other three primary suitors this week: the Chicago Bulls, the Dallas Mavericks or the Los Angeles Lakers.

I'm guessing they end up with Anthony, with Bosh returning to the Heat or catching on elsewhere.

(And if I say that enough, maybe Melo ends up in Chicago.)

I think Bosh should've been their number one priority. Dwight, Bosh, Parsons, Harden & Beverley starting lineup

Parson's a free agent (they declined his player option) but I don't know perhaps they'll resign him once they got/miss their targeted FA...

The option was declined just so Parsons can get a new contract with higher pay from the Rockets.
Unless Parsons pulls off what Boozer did in Cleveland.

If this happens, Bosh should stop shooting three pointers. It's annoying.

Seems like Rockets will be a changed team no matter what. Howard+Bosh would be a great combo.

Howard's endgame free throws >>>> Bosh's endgame threes

I'd rather have LBJ going to the Rockets for basketball reasons. Top 3 center, League best player, League top SG: This is a super team at all angles.

But if Bosh ends going there, it's an interesting upgrade nonetheless.
