MVP RACE: James vs Durant

Postby Kevin on Sat Apr 12, 2014 8:05 am

So guys, who do you think will win MVP this year? Is it gonna be LeBron again? Or is it gonna be the Slim Reaper, Kevin Durant. Any opinions are welcome :D

The award should go to Kobe, just look at the Lakers without him.

Durant. 40 consecutive games with more then 25 points it's enough.

James quest is the three-peat, btw he got already four MVP trophies... And Durant make a unbelievable final run.

The only two candidates who should get serious consideration at this point are Kevin Durant and LeBron James, and of the two, I think it has to be Durant. LeBron hasn't had a terrible season by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not quite on par with the last couple of seasons he's had while Durant is having a career year and edges LeBron in a few statistical categories. I'd say Durant has earned it fair and square, so if he wins it - and he really should - then it'll hardly be a "pity vote", or a decision made for the sake of having someone else win it. He's the MVP of this regular season.

I haven't looked at their stats lately. Perhaps I will sum up and post it here later this weekend. But I am guessing it favors Durant little over James.

Their numbers are reasonably close and comparable across the board, each besting the other in certain areas that aren't really a surprise (Durant is better from the line, LeBron's overall field goal percentage is better; LeBron has more assists, Durant is scoring more points, to throw out a few examples). PER, Offensive Win Shares, Total Win Shares and Win Shares Per 48 favour Durant.

Without a doubt, Durant will going to be the MVP this year. He's the better player this conference, but, still LBJ is the best NBA player in this generation. Period.

I'll go with Joey Crawford as the MVP this season and maybe in the PLAYOFFS!

You're right about Crawford as the MVP. I mean that guy is maybe the WORST referee in the NBA. He once ejected Tim Duncan and then challenged Tim to punch him which actually gave him a 7 month suspension

Durant is the deserving winner this season. I really don't see Lebron having a shot this year(not saying he didn't have a good year). It's not like they will be giving the MVP to someone undeserving(ala the Rose MVP).

So, how does everyone think the voting will go down? I 'm expecting Durant will have a comfortable edge, but it won't be a landslide either.

ESPN actually selected 84 people to vote on either of them and Durant got 83 while LeBron got only 1.

I'd be surprised if the actual voting is that one-sided. LeBron's still had a fine season.

He's the unanimous MVP for this season, but he's not gonna win a championship anytime soon though. lol

I'd love to see another 2012 Finals rematch against these two. Oh well, OKC is gonna get beaten up in the wild wild west before they could go in the Finals.
