Jeremy Lin → Charlie Bell → Shawn Bradley → Moses Malone → Rick Barry → Gary Phillips → Carl Braun → Wat Misaka

7 degrees

Basically there's a 10+ year vet on almost every team and then each degree jumps a decade when they get to them

Copy pasting tables from b-r isn't hard.

Ummmmm.... I guess being teammates right now doesn't count?

By the way... IT LIES: Bob Cousy → Fred Foster → Adrian Dantley → Karl Malone → Jannero Pargo → Cory Higgins

Pargo and Higgins were never on a roster together. Higgins was waived in the first month or so of the season and Pargo was signed in the last month of the season. I know it's probably a quirk of the system (just assumes all players played for the team that year the whole year.)

Also, try to get one longer than this:
Fred Sheffield → Howie Dallmar → Kenny Sailors → Bob Cousy → John Havlicek → Kermit Washington → Chris Mullin → Al Harrington → Maurice Harkless
9 players. I seriously don't think it's possible to top this.

EDIT: I am having far too much fun with this.

9 players. I seriously don't think it's possible to top this.

You can't from what I can tell. It doesn't scrape properly from certain teams. You can't even connect certain players from the same team. (Like Kobe and Pau Gasol.)

That's why my Biyombo one above topped at 9 because Kappen was the only player on the entire roster that wouldn't return an "invalid names" result.

The easiest way to get to eight or nine is to pick a young player on a young team today and an old player (at the time) from the past. Then you hope nobody they've played with ever played with Moses, Kareem, Parish, Malone, etc.

I wonder what the largest gap is between active players.

EDIT: For example, Andre Drummond → Will Bynum → Chauncey Billups → Jared Jeffries → Damian Lillard

I actually wanna see the coding/algorithm behind it now. I wanna create one of these basketball tools these days actually and probably start a blog or something. LoL

As do I. Can't be too much different from the Traveling Salesman Problem I had to code when I was still doing computer science.

By the way, I'm trying to get 10 different players and I swear Al Harrington ruins everything.

Just saying, to get a lot of degrees, use MKG as the end product. He is the youngest player in the NBA.
