SUNS Waive Beasley!!

Postby Alejandrov011 on Wed Sep 04, 2013 5:56 am

The Phoenix Suns waived forward Michael Beasley today pursuant to a termination agreement between the club and him. In accordance with that agreement, the compensation owed to him by the team will be reduced, and the Suns’ salary cap room will be increased for both the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.

“The Suns were devoted to Michael Beasley’s success in Phoenix,” said Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby. “However, it is essential that we demand the highest standards of personal and professional conduct as we develop a championship culture. Today’s action reflects our commitment to those standards. The timing and nature of this, and all of our transactions, are based on the judgment of our Basketball leadership as to how best to achieve our singular goal of rebuilding an elite team.”

“We have high standards for all of our players,” said Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough. “We expect them to represent the team and the community in a positive manner both on and off the court.”

Beasley signed a three-year contract with Phoenix as a free agent on July 20, 2012, and in his one season with the Suns, played in 75 games with averages of 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds.

He's just 23, he's young, 2,08m, and has potential... But he has also a lot of problems, he was caught having marijuana just weeks ago... What a waste!

OFF: The new GM, McDonough is making impact on the team, let's see if it works in time

It's a shame it happened. For some reason I always hoped he would succeed. In saying that though, he's still very young and has time to turn it around. It's definitely too early to have a poll like RealGM did about whether he'll play another game in the NBA. He could still thrive in the right system, I think.

I can see why they might break that poll out though. There might not be a lot of takers right now, given his issues and unflattering NBA resume. Still, as you both said he's young and there's still enough talent/promise there for at least a couple more teams to take a chance on him.

I was one of those people who thought Beasley could have gone first overall over Rose in that draft.

Come at me.

He's young, talented and has a lot of potential. I know he will be signed by a team anytime soon. I'd love to see him sign with the Spurs. Popovich would be a good coach that would push him play more his potential.

Who can really blame you. It was Pat Riley that drafted him.

I agree with King Mellow, would really like to see Beasley on the Spurs, or the Clippers, since he needs a good coach to help him. But his NBA playing days are far from over, and I all I see from him is a sixth man/average starter kind of guy, although I hope I'm wrong. If he got his shit together, he would be top 20 in the NBA.
