Couldn't find the Boston Dirtics thread. Oops typo! c & d on keyboard too close together. Anyhoo, Celtics are one of the 'surprise' teams of 2014?

Boston! What the Hell, They're Tanking Too!
Nope. I am not a huge Danny Ainge fan, but I think he knows that Garnett and Pierce are both no longer the superstars they once were. Sure, they are still productive but they aren't that hard to replace, and arguably Humphries and Wallace will go a long way towards that. This team that isn't going to suck.
Between Humphries, Sullinger, and Crash, the Celtics have possibly the best rebounding front line in the league (IF they start those three). Of course, if they give Green too many minutes at PF, or do something silly like starting Kelly Olynyck at C (or Brandon Bass at PF), that will hurt a lot. And I cannot explain management's love affair with Avery Bradley, or why they wanted MarShon Brooks. What's with teams employing shooting guards who cannot shoot? If you're looking for defenders, you want guys like Ronnie Brewer, who isn't a great shooter but chooses his spots so well that he doesn't hurt you on offense. Avery Bradley, however, doesn't let his poor shooting deter him from chucking away.
Anyway, wait, I thought I said this team would be good? Right.
If Rondo is healthy and Stevens doesn't allocate minutes poorly, this is likely a playoff team. Which would be awesome, because it would really fuel Stevens' mythical wunderkind status. This might start a wave of NBA managers trying to emulate Boston by hiring smart guys to coach or manage. That would be a big improvement over just hiring ex-nba players with lots of charisma. Often, ex-players don't have any knowledge about the factors that actually made them good players (I'm looking at you, Michael, and you, Kurt Rambis). I'm very excited to see if Stevens, who has a reputation for data-driven coaching, actually follows the data and gives minutes accordingly. Ideally, the starters are Rondo, Lee, Wallace, Humphries, and Sullinger, and that is a cometitive starting 5 right there. Management, however, might want Green to start over Wallace or Hump, or Bradley/Brooks over Lee, and those would be bad decisions.
The Celtics are too good to tank?
