TERRENCE WILLIAMS SIGNS WITH DETROIT TO MAKE LEFTOS HAPPY

Postby IronMike on Wed Sep 26, 2012 9:38 am

DETROIT (AP) -- Terrence Williams has agreed to an NBA minimum, non-guaranteed contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Williams will report to Oct. 1 to Detroit's training camp.
He was drafted No. 11 overall in the 2009 NBA draft by New Jersey, but hasn't played up to his potential.
The 6-foot-6 Williams averaged 8.4 points in 78 games, including nine starts, as a rookie for the Nets. They traded him to Houston during his second season in the league after he repeatedly broke team rules and played just 11 games. He averaged 8.8 points in 18 games last season in Sacramento and 4.5 points over 12 games with Houston. The 25-year-old Williams is from Seattle and was a standout for Louisville.

Potentially a very solid pickup if he keeps his head on straight and finds a niche on the team.

I'm getting on thread titles now? Go me.

In any case, in a team that right now already has a logjam at the SF, and that has all-too-recent memories of the Kuester debacle, I don't know if I'm at all excited to have him. Make note that the Pistons still have a 15-man roster already, this is just a training camp contract.

But I don't want any more guys that could cause mutinies showing up. We're past that now. We have Lawrence Frank and his philosophy, and I want the young guys to develop around workhorses like Monroe and Jerebko, who are devoted to their game, instead of trying to be bitches.

If Dumars has moves in mind to find along with coach Frank a position for him at SG/SF, so be it. But I just can't find many reasons to be excited about the guy right now.

A player as talented as Terrence Williams struggling to find a team is a telltale sign that there is probably a lot of baggage with this guy.

I'm rooting for the guy though. He's very fun to watch when he's got his head on straight.

If this was an association then it would be a great pickup. He has the potential, which works out in the video games, but I've never really seen him play in real life and don't know much about his off the court issues. I guess he's kind of like a LeBron Jr. I kind of like that with Prince aging they made this move. If Williams performs to his full potential, a Knight, Stuckey, Williams, Monroe, Drummond lineup isn't looking too bad for the future. They have trade/cap relief assets in Maggette, Prince, and Villanueva. Daye and Jerebko have shown potential, so the Pistons aren't looking too bad right now.

Well I think there was something weird in the two preseason games last season against the Cavs where Daye started at center one game and then shooting guard the next. It doesn't mean he'll play either with success, but I think in one of those games he had a really good outing. He seems to be best fit as a forward, but he's almost too tall for the 3 and too weak for the 4, but like T-Will, he's a good player in 2K. And I need to see Daye play more to give a more accurate judgement for him.

Just wondering, would it be safe to call T-Will and Jonny Flynn busts yet? Or do we have to wait a few more seasons?

They're busts. Also a big reason why I don't use 2K's rosters. I reckon Williams will be in Europe in a couple years. Hard to see him getting much playing time behind Prince, Daye and Maggette.
