Prediction: Kobe gets 6th title next year

Postby kingjames23 on Sun Jun 20, 2010 6:23 am

why?

because Phil Jackson only wins titles by way of threepeat.

chicago 1991,92,93
chicago 1996,97,98
los angeles 2000,01,02
los angeles 2009,10,(11) see a pattern?

why else?

because Kobe now has 4 attainable championship goals left,
1)to win one more than the greatest "Laker" ever, Magic Johnson... and at the same time...
2) to achieve the exact same thing Jordan did. 6 titles, both by way of threepeat. (although there was a much larger gap between titles for Kobe, and MJ did the semi retirement thing)
3)to actually win more titles than Jordan did (Kobe is only 31... and could play another 6-9 years... time enough to get one more at least, but i dont see this Laker team as we know it staying a force forever, so catching Russell in the ring department isnt going to happen. )
4) from a franchise perspective, to bring the Lakers into a tie with, and put LA in the position to eventually surpass the Celtics in number of championships attained.

i think in many people's eyes Kobe will never outshine Jordan, and while he will never match Jordan in statistical categories, his will to win is just as great. and i think that determination may someday validate him as the second best shooting guard in nba history. if not the 2nd best player overall. at the end of next season, i predict that Bryant wins another ring. if it happens, it will be one of the greatest achievements in nba history. for a player, for a coach, for a team, for a franchise.

then, its LeBron's turn....

Not possible because the Spurs will win it next year.
Why?
Because the Spurs only win titles when the last digit of the year is an odd number and they take 3 year breaks before they win another championship.

Spurs 1999
2000-2002 (3 years)
Spurs 2003
Spurs 2005
Spurs 2007
2008-2010 (3 years)
Spurs 2011

See a pattern?

i dont see any reason kobe wouldnt play 6-9 more years, that would make him between 37 and 40 years old at the time. given his competitive nature i can see him still being a factor at that age, in more of a supporting role of course.

the Spurs? seriously? only if they land a huge free agent and bring in a whole lot of younger players. the Spurs are too old and worn down. they aren't even one of the top 5 teams in the league anymore, top 10 maybe, but not an elite team anymore by a long shot.

I'm sick of this Jordan-Bryant comparison. There would never be another Michael Jordan unless somebody cloned him during his prime.

The Lakers winning it all next year is certainly not an unreasonable prediction, though I'd ascribe that to the talent they have on the roster (and the extensions they've signed to keep them around) rather than any kind of pattern.

i wanna point out that kobe has not done what jordan has. even if he gets number 6 by 3 peat he still would not have done what jordan did. you see jordan has 6 finals mvp's to go with 6 rings. he actually got better in the finals where kobe just gets worse. only a fucking retard could even play with the idea of kobe being as good as jordan

It's as serious as you finding the pattern of Phil Jackson's success. Keep up the good work John Nash.

Kobe can never be as good as Jordan, rings or not. Kobe isn't half the defender MJ was and that's pretty much saying it all. If you aren't even the best defender on your team, how can you be considered better than the g.o.a.t.?

He's pretty damn good, but just that.

Kobe only has 2 finals mvps because he played with Shaq, who was in his prime then... and Shaq deserved those finals mvps.
MJ never had a dominant big man like that.

i also never said Kobe was as good as Jordan.

statistically there is no comparison. the comparison is simply that Kobe is proving himself to be as much of a winner as Jordan was. if Bryant ends up with 7 titles, only Russell will have lead his team to more. considering Kobe has just hit his prime, the lakers have a fairly young team with a lot of talent and the best coach in the league its not unrealistic to consider this happening.

There's no guarantee that Phil Jackson is going to be back next year, either. He's making a decision in the next couple of weeks. So, if Phil Jackson only wins titles by way of three-peat and there's no Phil Jackson.....

first of all kobe has not lead his team to 5 rings he has lead them to 2 rings the first 3 he was the second banana. secondly, jordan could have had shaq in his prime on his team and that mvp still goes to jordan.

This. Actually, you could probably make an argument that Kobe was the MVP of the 2002 Finals. I know Shaq was dominant, but seriously, he was matching up with Todd MacCulloch, now a professional pinball player (really, go check.) and Jason Collins, who's tenure as the Nets' starting center still stands as one of the most puzzling decisions in NBA history.

I agree that he was second banana on two of those teams, but once that Nets' series came about, we saw Kobe transform into the alpha dog. That change obviously didn't bode well for the Lakers' chemistry, but by the time they got back to the Finals in 2004, Kobe was "the" guy on the Lakers.

Kobe is winning because he finally has help. what about all those years between shaq and these two wins? Kobe struggled to get to the finals until Pau came to town. Gasol deserves MVP and G.O.A.T chants solely for his beard just about as much as Kobe's will to win matters.

Kobe had 26.8 PPG in that series while Shaq had 36.3 PPG and 12.30 RPG. Shaq is still the alpha dog in the Nets series

Kobe's supporting casts all are greats. Even half of their bench could start on half the teams in the NBA. Thus, just a suprior team. Kobe being the leader and a whiny bitch, he gets all the credits therefore compared to MJ or Lebron. Nothing more than that.

I wouldn't go that far.

Shannon Brown-Roleplayer on any team
Jordan Farmar-solid as a backup PG but there's no way he takes a starting job from any PG worth a damn
Didier Ilunga-Mbenga-Awesome name, but wouldnt start for anyone in the NBA
Adam Morrison-couldnt make it on the bobcats. The bobcats biggest star at the time was raymond felton and he couldnt even top that.
Lamar Odom-the only potential starter elsewhere in the NBA
Josh Powell-See Shannon Brown
Sasha Vujacic-Even lakers fans hate him. Theres a reason. He's not very good. Yet another perennial roleplayer
Luke Walton-What's his appeal again?

So thats the bench...1 guy could start on any team in the NBA. The 2nd best guy on the bench is Farmar who would only start for a truly desperate team.

Pau. That's the only one who could truly be considered a 'great'. Not Fish, not Ron, not Bynum. Not the bench, as has been mentioned.

Even half of their bench could start on half the teams in the NBA.

Righto. Pretty sure Oznogrd has this one covered.

Thus, just a suprior team. Kobe being the leader and a whiny bitch

Yes, Kobe is a whiny bitch. It's so annoying how every time he doesn't get his way, he goes home and cries instead of working his ass off to get better. If he had the work ethic of a Vince Carter or a Shaquille O'Neal, he'd be one of the top 50 greatest shooting guards in the NBA today.

Nothing more than that.

No, he's not an outstandingly talented basketball player with an incredible work ethic and Jordanesque drive to win. Not at all.

Of course you took my comment literally. If I do the same on yours...

"I am more skilled than Lebron"
"Lebron is Kobe lite"
"MJ is Kobe without 3pt"
"Lebron is one dimensional"

Crazy eh? and it's amazing those are only a few of many great comments of yours. :D

Wasn't I meant to?

"I am more skilled than Lebron"

Excluding everything caused by my not having his body, this is true.

"Lebron is Kobe lite"

Not really sure I said exactly that, but you could see their offensive fundamentals that way.

"MJ is Kobe without 3pt"

Watch them both sometime. I'm not arguing with stats, or success, or anything else, merely what the casual observer would see upon watching the two, particularly if that were to be exclusively highlight reels, by way of explaining why the comparison is made so much.

"Lebron is one dimensional"

LeBron is a one-dimensional scorer. Drive. Dunk. Drive. Dunk. Drive. Dunk. Did I ever claim his entire game was one-dimensional? No.
