Zo Greedy??? (I think not)

Postby madskillionaire on Sun Jul 13, 2003 6:33 am

I think not. I was listening to the radio (560 wqam!!! yehee) and a caller or two called to talk about Zo going to New Jersey. OK, they say that Zo is just being greedy and just wants the money.....if that was the case, why did he pass up Denver's offer? Because HE NEEDS A DAMN RING! He knows that with NJ, he has much of a better shot, so does Kidd, like him staying in the East. The only way you can win the Finals, is if you can GET THERE!!!

Zo knows with the Heat, its not gonna happen, and with Denver....well, let's not talk about Denver. There is still the question whether Mourning will be healthy enough, which was a decisive choice by NJ. However, its one they can afford... I mean, imagine the lineup:

Alonzo
Kenyon
Jefferson
Kittles
Kidd

I see a playoff bound team, that if all goes well, will see a championship.

He wants a ring.. I'm imagining a good rivalry next year in the finals, Lakers with Malone and Payton against the Nets with Mourning and Kidd. :P

than while those 4 are battling kobe and shaq will quietly dominate the game, get real, even with the nets having Kidd and mourning, the lakers got payton, malone, kobe and shaq! the lakers could easily sweep them, the lakers swept the nets with just kobe and shaq and nets had just kidd now nets adding mourning but lakers adding malone and payton! lakers win finals 4-0(maybe 4-1)

I doubt the Lakers will go 82-0, but that's a topic for one of the other Laker-related threads.

I don't think Mourning is greedy for going to the Nets. It seems that Zo didn't leave the Heat on bitter terms, they simply could not come to an agreement. Zo most likely could have had a much fatter salary if he went to Denver or San Antonio or even if he'd stayed in Miami, but since he did not agree to take larger deals from those teams, I don't see how he can be labelled greedy.

If a team is willing to offer a player a lot of money and a legitimate shot at a title, it need not be a big deal if he decides to accept the offer. Obviously you would expect the player to show some loyalty to his old club, especially if he had a long tenure there, but the NBA is a business where players are so often treated like commodities. Then when they have an opportunity to make a decision that most of us could make - changing jobs, changing employers - it's frowned upon.

I might feel differently if I were a Heat fan, but I don't think Zo has been greedy or even callous in signing with the Nets. He's just nearing the end of his career and looking for one last opportunity for success in his field of employment while at the same time being adequately compensated for his services.
