I Just heard,that James White Said that he'll be at the Contest,though i don't know how,but that would be a blast !
Just recently i saw that Serge Ibaka said,that he would want to be in the contest.

Considering this is the first year of a new decade, it was always going to hold the title of best or worst of the decade, at least for twelve months.

I'm sure James White would throw his hat into the ring, so long as he's on an NBA roster. That's the issue here, unless they open up the contest to D-Leaguers and the TFB guys.

I would love to see James White in the dunk contest but I doubt that's going to happen unless he's playing for an NBA team. He would bring the crowd on their feet if he could pull out those sick free throw dunks. I remember seeing one video clip where his chin is leveled with the rim.

James White does the kind of thing I'd like to see happen more often in the NBA contest, putting a new twist on old dunks. Sure, we've seen a lot of dunks from the free throw line and the previous winners who have taken off from there set the standard with what they've done, but when White is doing things like double clutch two-handers and windmills from the line then that's taking things to the next level.

so i bet had he competed, Howard would have won it this year, easily. i imagine him pulling the ball off the top of the backboard then 180/360/reverse on the way down. the ball would need a cradle of some kind up there, but i think that kind of dunk would be sick. goddam its late... i doubt that made a lick of sense

I agree; even he'd pulled out the cap and some other gimmicky stuff, I think Howard would have still done some creative stuff with the ball.

If we're counting 2010 as the same decade as 2009, then shouldn't 1990 be considered the same decade as 1989? As far as I'm aware, the former is the beginning of the 90s and the latter the end of the 80s. Why is it different now that we're working with a new century and some zeroes?

in gregorian calendar system there was no year zero i'm thinking is what benji is going for, so truly no decade (be the 90s or any other) is actually done till theres a 1 in the new one

Fair enough. I guess we could split hairs on that one but in describing how mundane the 2010 dunk contest was, I don't think it ultimately matters. I think it can be said that we could put this year's contest in any decade that's featured an NBA dunk contest (not to mention the ABA's contest back in 1976) and it would rank last or surely in the bottom three.

It's the only thing that matters because it's infinitely more interesting than talking about that so-called "dunk contest."

That's two different things. Any ten year span is a "decade" so 1990-1999 is a decade named "the 90s" but it contains one year from the 198th decade and nine years from the 199th decade.

Now, in the NBA we commonly start this decade with 2000-2001 ending with 2009-2010 because the season straddles two years.
