Sixers considering breaking ties with A.I.

Allen Iverson will not be with the Philadelphia 76ers on their current West Coast road trip and could have played his last game for the team. League sources told Yahoo! Sports there’s a strong movement within the organization to permanently break ties with him.

Iverson is with his family to deal with medical issues concerning his daughter, but his constant in-and-out of the lineup this season has led team officials to believe a permanent break is best for the organization. Sources said Iverson went to team officials over the weekend and said he needed to leave again.

So much for a storybook homecoming, but it sounds like his daughter's illness is pretty serious which is unfortunate news. Given that he's been starting for the Sixers and hasn't been making a fuss about playing time or his role, I'm inclined to believe there's nothing more to the story than that and looking back it probably means that his absence from the Grizzlies wasn't completely basketball related (though I'd still speculate that it was a factor nevertheless).

Unlike that Memphis debacle, I think AI is loyal to the Sixers organization. He may have his delusional spurts where he thinks he's good, but he wouldn't screw over them. His daughter apparently has a heart infection, which def. doesn't sound pleasant, so if that's the case he should for sure be with family and not the bad 76ers.

Ifi was in his place i would do the same.There's no reason for breaking ties with him,as they don't have another good player like him in his position,and he will be valuable when he returns.And also they have to respect what he gave to the team all these years

If this is really what's been going on (the sick daughter thing) i think you're dead wrong. Theres just some things more important than a game if he doesnt need it to pay her medical bills. Hope she gets well and he can come back as much as i think he should retire

Of course, his daughter's well being is important to Iverson and I wish the best luck to him in that, but as AI's fan, I have to admit, he looked lost since the days in Detroit. If he really cared for the team he played for or even cared for teammates he plays with, I think he wouldn't have gotten to this position. Say, in Detroit, nobody really was close to Iverson and even he stated that he leaves right away after the game. Whatever the team brought him for, he hasn't delivered for any teams. Nor it looked, he at least tried.

Agreed, though I personally wouldn't go as far as saying he should retire. I doubt it has anything to do with him not being interested in playing professional basketball anymore - though perhaps one could say his concern for his daughter's well-being is overriding his passion for the game - but more a case of him having his priorities in order.

Iverson won't return to Sixers this season.

Not surprising and good for both the Sixers and Iverson.

I hope his daughter recovers soon and i hope we see him back in the NBA next season for
a farewell tour. I'm a fan of A.I. but his days are over unless he want to serve the team as
a benchplayer. Maybe he want to serve the Sixers.

He wasn't doing too badly as a starter for the Sixers, he doesn't necessarily have to resign himself to 15-20 minutes off the bench if he's to come back for a farewall tour but a starring role does seem out of the question. Anyway, he's obviously doing what's right for his family, if this is it for his career at least he's ending it on a slightly better note that he would have had he gone through retirement after parting ways with the Grizzlies.

Allen Iverson’s wife filed for divorce the same day the Philadelphia 76ers announced that the All-Star guard would not return for the rest of the season.

Tawanna Iverson said their 8 1/2 -year marriage is “irretrievably broken,” in papers filed Tuesday in Fulton County Superior Court. She asks for full custody of the couple’s five children, child support and alimony.

The youngest child is 17 months old and the oldest is 15.

The police have said that the incident occurred early on the morning of July 3, after Iverson had argued with his wife of 11 months, Tawanna Iverson. The fight culminated with Allen Iverson's kicking his naked wife out of their suburban house on July 2, according to a 911 police tape, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported today.

Sometime thereafter, Iverson and his uncle went searching for Tawanna Iverson. At about 3 a.m. on July 3, they drove to the West Philadelphia apartment of Iverson's cousin Shaun Bowman, the police said. As Iverson and his uncle forced their way into the apartment, Iverson had a gun tucked in his waist and it was visible, investigators said; once inside, Iverson orally threatened the two men in the apartment -- Charles Jones and Hakim Carey -- asking the whereabouts of Tawanna Iverson and Bowman, the police said.

Abraham, the Philadelphia district attorney, said at a news conference this afternoon that Iverson and his uncle ''went to this apartment and allegedly displayed a gun and made some threats, wondering about the whereabouts of his wife.''

Surprised their marriage lasted as long as it did.
