Interview with Abdul-Rauf

Good read. Shame no teams wanted him, he was a pretty good player according to basketball folklore.

Will read through that later. Pretty controversial guy, I think he got in trouble for not standing for the national anthem or something. He had a good run for about 5 years and was decent overall but nothing too special or out of the ordinary. Great free throw shooter though.

Worth a read, thanks for the heads up. I thought his NBA career was solid, albeit brief; if not for the controversy during the 1996 season he probably would've been in the league for quite a few years after that, perhaps even up until a few years ago if not still on someone's bench today. He was also one of those players who could be just plain lethal in video games.

When that controversy arose in 1996 he probably should've chosen his words more carefully though. Calling the American flag "a symbol of tyranny and oppression" probably wasn't the most PR-friendly way of expressing and standing by his beliefs.

Yeah... a pity that he played when he did... I wonder if he would get punished for what he did then in today's NBA. What does Brandon Roy do during national anthems?

I reckon they'd probably make an even bigger deal out of it now, certainly just as much fuss as there was back then.
