Redd out for the season (again)

Article

A basketball source has confirmed that Michael Redd suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee on Sunday night in Los Angeles. The injury will sideline the Bucks shooting guard for the rest of the season.

The injury is the same one that Redd suffered nearly one year ago, on Jan. 24 against Sacramento at the Bradley Center. He suffered a torn ACL and torn MCL in his left knee on that night and was lost for the rest of the season.

On Sunday, Redd planted on his left foot as he made a move in the lane during the Bucks' 95-77 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center. He immediately was helped off the court.

The silver lining is that it opens up opportunities for Bogut and Jennings again, but it's certainly not the ideal way for it to come about and you hate to see a career derailed by injuries. RealGM's summary of the article describes the injury as career threatening while the original article isn't quite as melodramatic, but to state the obvious it certainly isn't good news for Redd to go down two years in a row with the same severe injury.

Oh no! How can they replace his 12 PPG on 35% shooting? Bad news for Redd, neutral news for Bucks fans.

Edit: Good news for Bucks fans. They are 9-7 without Redd and 6-12 with him.

That was the first feeling I got too. They did ok without Redd early this season, so maybe... there is a chance for the Bucks to still make the playoffs.

The chance of them making the playoffs improves with this actually. Wouldn't be surprised if they fell short, winning 35 or so games and having yet another mid-late lotto pick though

:? sucks because both me and my sister have suffered with those ligaments in the past but as you guys said, good for Jennings and Bogut.

Redd needs to just retire and join a broadcast team IMO
Opinions are my own.

Redd time with the Bucks is pretty much over, its time for them to move forward without him, he isn't in the Buck's future plan thats for sure.
I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot.

Agreed, it certainly wouldn't surprise me if they shop him in the offseason and move forward with Bogut and Jennings.

Next season, his expiring contract will be an epic trading chip.

Unfortunately without an epic free agency class in 2011, though. All things considered I'd say there'll be some takers, teams who missed out on the free agent sweepstakes of 2010 and scramble to make a move, any move so it's not a wasted offseason.

On a completely unrelated note, I wonder what Gar Forman has up his sleeve.

I'd like to see if Jennings can break out of his slump with Redd out. He's been struggling big time since Redd came back. I feel really bad for Redd though, it's bad enough to be injured this badly but it's also his second time with the exact same injury. It just shows that his knee isn't strong enough anymore. If I were him I'd give up basketball career so that I will be able to walk properly when I'm old, but then again it's easier said than done. There's always this urge to play.

Every non All-NBA FA will be settling for one year contracts because there aren't going to be enough teams with enough cash to accommodate them all. And everyone who misses out will save the money instead of blowing it on second-tier non-stars and the players will take the one year contracts to roll things over and hope to get a bigger payday in a better market in 2011.

Of course I assumed teams were smart enough to realize the 2009 class was weak, the economy was tanking and the luxury tax was going to rape them for their bad contracts of the last half decade. But no people like Hedo Turkoglu, Charlie V, Dahntay Jones, and Ben Gordon were all handed money hand over fist.

Redd wasn't really taking anything away from Bogut and Jennings this season, he is terrible but they had him on a short leash really.

Apparently if he misses 41 games the Bucks only have to pay like 3 million of his salary, which is like 15-18 mil or something.

Strangely enough the exact same thing happened in my Bucks' Association, Redd is lost for a year due to a torn ACL. Fortunately I had the foresight to trade him about 2 weeks prior to his injury :P

Actually, I'd rate their chances more without Redd than with him. At less than 100% he wasn't helping the team.

Their record with and without would seem to support that too.

That post was so accurate and eloquently worded that it deserved to be posted twice. Good work Stephenie.

Considering the possibility for a moment, ioesn't work straight up, but Redd/Elson for McGrady would work:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... eId=l7xffh

Seeing as though McGrady isn't playing for them anyway, maybe the Rockets make that deal and count on Redd giving them depth next season or giving them a player with a big expiring contract to shop but my guess is they'd probably rather benefit from McGrady's expiring contract themselves.
