I guess so. During the Cavs games they always talk about how the players hit half court shots and whatnot during practice. I remember hearing a story where coach Brown said that if Z hit a half court shot on his first try, they wouldn't have to practice that day. Being the marksman that he is, Z drained it.

our coach at college made it so if you had practice on your birthday he'd give you a half court shot first thing in practice. If you managed to make it (this was usually around 6:30 in the morning), everyone got the day off. it happens, its freaking awesome when it does but its rare.

Great shot. I doubt he practices those, but anybody, especially an NBA player, can hit the occasional three-pointer. I feel sorry for Hawks fans who were subjected to back-to-back losses at the Cavs' hands.

HAlf court shots kinda are trickshots. 3s are regular shots, I doubt that most players really train everything, i mean did marbury ever did a post up drill?

varejao doesnt really gets to shoot clutch shots, he´s like the 7th option after Bron and co.

I saw this and I know it's reason to complain, but it doesn't appear hat the short shot clock effected the Hawks play. Woodson noticed it and all, but it seems like Bibby and Jsmith just ran a pick-and-roll without a notice.

Bibby probably knew the time in the shot clock running out but was unaware of the error thus going with the easy and fast two-man play. If that's the case it still affected the Hawks offense.

I agree, I'm not sure that anyone could fairly say that it cost the Hawks the game. Both teams had ample opportunity to win the game (or blow it) from that point on. It shouldn't have happened and it's made worse by the fact it happened during the waning minutes of a close game (especially because a team with one of the league's most marketable players ended up winning, giving the conspiracy theorists more to talk about) but the Hawks were unlucky victims to an unlikely three pointer by Varejao more than they were screwed over.

For the "NBA players can hit the three" argument. I'm still really astonished by how bad some (especially US guys, but no prejudices here) players can shoot the ball. I remember Tony Allen throwing an air ball on a wide open mid range J vs Orlando on Christmas coverage.

It's like a basic thing in the game, still many guys cannot shoot the ball. Some say Europeans are too soft, because they shoot a lot. But it's also like they just had a great education on their shooting.

I'd say he doesn't really train on it but perhaps shoot the occasional shots in warmup and shootarounds. He could train on it, perhaps should. All players and particularly bigs that can and do shoot the 3 obviously practice on it or have a lot in the past.
