Marbury to the D-League?

Postby Andrew on Sun Sep 20, 2009 9:45 am

Well, probably not. I'll believe it when I see it. Apparently the invitation is there, it remains to be seen how serious it is but I guess in all fairness you never know. If he's at all interested in returning to the NBA, it would be a rather unusual route for a player of his former stature to take.

The article also offers up a candidate for photoshopped image of the day:

Why would you bother photoshopping Marbury into a D-League jersey

I don't think he really cares too much about the NBA anymore. The guy clearly has some issues but unless he's a danger to himself people should probably just leave him alone to be insane and cry and whatever else he wants to do.

Skintones don't even match. I think he has too big of an ego to go to the D-league.

I always thought there were age limits in the D-League, it's supposed to be a development league after all. How much more development do you have to do when you're the best point guard in the world?

Randy Livingston's been there for a while so there must not be an age limit. I think it has to do with a player with an NBA contract being sent down. I think that type of situation's only possible for players that isn't past their 3rd year in the NBA.

I was wondering about that too, I'd say you're right though. Makes sense I suppose, a vet like Randy Livingston is likely going to get signed by an NBA team from time to time when there's an injury or whatever but a team isn't likely to send such a player back to the D-League while keeping him on a guaranteed contract (and taking up a spot on the roster in the meantime). There's always going to be veterans looking to get back into the NBA though, so it would be unfair to bar them from the NBA's official minor league entirely.

He doesn't strike me as having the right disposition to coach in the NBA.

I'd suggest he can still play, though he's unlikely to get a prominent role anywhere. He seemed to keep out of trouble during his brief stint in Boston, though his performance wasn't all that impressive even taking into account his limited minutes.

A superstar to D-League? Wow. I mean there are many potentially good point guards out there now days, but a player who was known as one of the best to the D-League can be really surprising. I bet he'd retire or sign with European team before that happens.

Agreed. The chances of it seem slim, just idle talk during an offseason that's gotten a bit slow.
