As i heard that the Pistons split their realtionship with Rick Carlisle i asked myself, why a team, which has reached the conference-finals, fires the coach who is ranked fourth in the "Coach-of-the-year"-voting because of this acomplishment. But now, after their front-office hired Larry Brown as the new Head Coach, i have to admit that they have done the right thing. He is one of the best coaches in the game who could lead the Pistons to the Finals, especially if Darko Milicic is the "Big Hit" everyone here in europe expects him to be.

There were rumors that Carlisle why fired because he had a cold relationship with Joe Dumars. But really firing Carlisle was surprising, but with Brown in the team, he can motivate this team.

I've heard that that wasn't the case. Rather, that he had a very bad relationship with the ownership and didn't want to participate in activities away from the court (such as charity work etc.).

I really didn't like larry brown's indirect comments of iverson after he left...very cheap. I dont like that guy much....carlise's piss-tons beat him..now they fire him to hire the looser?

i had also heard that Dumars wasn't pleased with Carlisle's playing rotations... oh well.. i don't think we'll get the truth anyway, only hearsay

Are you suggesting that Carlisle was not a good motivator?? Getting a team filled with role players and no real superstar to win 50 games and clinch the #1 spot in the Eastern Conference sounds like he did great job in that department.

be nice if Pax made a bold move and brought in Carlisle and have Cartwright take a lower position in the organization (such as assistant coach)

I said it before (and the power of the Internet allows me to say it again ): I know it's a business, but it's a pretty cold way of doing business. Basically, it's a case of "Thanks for getting this team to overachieve, but we can't really pass this guy up."

The question is, will Larry Brown do a better job? In his last two NBA coaching jobs, he's had a proven scorer (Reggie Miller then Allen Iverson) who is more likely to play outstanding basketball than shrink when the game (or indeed the season) is on the line. In Detroit, he has guys who can score, but aren't in the same class as Reggie and AI when it comes to scorers. Can he make that work?

It's the way of the new coach - they always change their tune. Back in 1996, Phil complained about Shaq's footwork and getting away with all sorts of infractions down low. Now that he coaches the Lakers he's defending and praising the way Shaq plays, which is only right, but still funny given his comments back in the Chicago days.

Perhaps it's an expected ritual though, a way of severing ties to the former team and showing commitment to the new one.

I think it's a good move

Carlise was out coached in the NJ series. His refusal to play Jon Barry, Rebraca in the playoffs killed his career. He's a good coach but not a championship coach.

I though Detroit should've beat NJ even with Billups injured. Let's not forget that Carlise barely made adjustments in time to beat Orlando. I think Brown will take the Pistons to the Finals next year.
